Greetings from Australia!

My wife and I are in the process of buying our first grand piano for her and our kids.

I have been in a pickle with the following selections, and I was hoping to get an opinion from the community here.

Kawai GE-30 - $15,000 ($14k USD)
Kawai GX-2 - $21,000 ($19.7K USD)
WM Knabe & Co WKG53 - $14,000 ($13.2k USD)

It is the end of financial year here so the dealers are willing to drag the price down, but that's as far as they can go.

These are all brand new pianos.

Any input will be very much welcomed.

Thanks again!

Mike

Hi Mike - Welcome to Piano World!

First of all, those prices in USD are Jaw Dropping! You can't find that here.

Without any doubt, the GX-2 would be the obvious choice. The best piano in the bunch and it's a very, very good instrument. It has the refinements, in tonal palette and action response, which far exceed the other two.

Have fun shopping!

I agree the GX-2 would be a first choice of the 3. But I would put the WKG53 above the GE-30 if budget holds you back. IMO, that Knabe has better materials and more musical potential than the GE-30.

I'd be curious what a Bernstein 178 (from Hailun) would ultimately go for in your part of the world. Did you audition any of these?

Good luck in your search!

We haven't had the chance to try Bernstein from Hailun as there isn't any dealers around us that stock them.

Our lounge room isn't very spacious, and we might just go with the WKG53, but the GX-2 is definitely very attempting.

Thanks for all the advice! I really do appreciated it.

Mike
