Hi again.

I have narrowed my search down to two pianos for my children who are going into their 6th year of piano.

Kawai CL2 ($2,400) vs. Young Chang U121 ($2,000)

Anyone out there familiar with these pianos?

Thanks in advance for any advice and/or insight!!!!!

Leslie

Leslie,

I remembered reading a bit about this Kawai model before and searched the forum for that. Referencing that (below), it looks like the City Life pianos were not sold in the US originally. I've seen video when I was searching for a piano several years ago that showed the keys are shorter then you might find in other models-to conserve space in an apartment for example. To me, that seems high for the Kawai when I see 1990 model UST8 for about $3000 from a dealer. Good luck in your search.

"Kawai CL-2 City Life upright piano, Serial number: 1,356,700
Manufactured by Kawai Japan in 1982, 26 years old.
{It is not a stencil piano, it is a true Kawai}

The U.S. asking price for this Gray Market piano is $1500, $1800.

I don't think that this model piano was ever sold brand new in North America. {Was it ever sold brand new in Manila?}

Norman, all pianos get brighter in tone the more you play them.
{Felt compacts more}

Usual advice, have a qualified independent piano technician check out any used piano for you before you buy it.

In my opinion, the U2 is not a superior instrument, just a different instrument. Buy the one you like the most.

Best of luck,

Bear
