Last night I heard the Beethoven Triple Concerto and Emperor Concerto at Avery Fisher Hall played by the NY Philharmonic with Yefim Bronfman and Glenn Dicterow(who has just retired as concertmaster). One of the math students I tutor gave me two tickets as a going away present. Aesthetically, I don't like the inside of Avery Fisher at all compared to Carnegie Hall. The Steinway D(couldn't tell if it was NY or Hamburg since we were so far away) was to die for. Made my Mason BB sound like a piece of sh-t.
I think the Triple Concerto is a masterpiece and wonder why it seems to be so rarely performed? I was with a friend who basically never listens to classical music and he described the first movement was "cacophany".
