Some time ago I pm'd a member here to say I'd written a two-part invention* but I probably would not post it here for various reasons. I've changed my mind. If I don't post here no one will see or hear it. Since I decided to post I've written a second one. I welcome any feed back you care to give. Thank you for listening.
(*) I've read the wiki definition but I don't have the background to know if these are, in fact, two-part inventions, so I've called them two-voice compositions.

I love the first one (have not listened to the second yet). The first twelve bars are straight by the book (fux). Then comes a modulation into the fifth. There is a nice rythmic flow in the bass, but the midi unfortunately doesn't bring it forth.
Perhaps squeeze in a trill somewhere for good measure laugh

SF! I just listened to the first one. Really nice stuff there.

Because you composed it you get to call it whatever you want. It's the privilege of the composer smile

You might, as something to try, take a Bach Invention that you particularly like. Then take the opening subject, the theme, whatever you want to call it, and trace it through the entire invention - By 'trace it through' I mean look look at the roadmap it creates as goes through the transpositions and modulation it goes through. No need to look at it the tracing process as 'done correctly' (or not). Whatever you find is what your gonna learn. The more you trace the more you learn ... smile

If you want a good textbook book about Baroque counterpoint take a look at the one Peter Schubert wrote. It's expensive but well with the tariff.

Thank you Larryz. They were fun to do. I just bought a book on counterpoint which the author says is based on Fux.

I did look at the C Major TPI, but I got bogged down in trying to analyze it. What you're suggesting didn't occur to me. That really is a great idea. Thank you!

An e-book: Counterpoint and How To Use It In Your Music by John Collins. I have serious space issues and only buy ebooks now. I think this book will work for me - I need something not too academic. Are you familiar with the book or author?

I asked because there seem to be alot of doubtful music books. I'm not familiar with this one, but hopefully someone else can give some reviews. It is only at 180 words, so I guess it will only cover the species. Though with your excellent compositions , you will plow through this in no time laugh
