Hello there, I am buying a second-hand piano and found some alternatives in the market, which one should I choose?
- I want a piano that can keep its value for 4 or 5 years (when I change it to a grand since the space doesn't allow me now). which one can do this ? is the price below fair? - Is a rebuilt 1970s U1/U3 still better than an almost new B2 silent?
options : 1. 4 years old Yamaha B2 silent. 113 cm high. White. produced in 2010 Indonesia. condition is good when I visited it. (only with silent function though in product manual, looks like in 2010 there is NO recording or replaying function in B silent serier yet? ) Price : 2720 Euro. From private owner ( the only owner).
2. Yamaha U3 from middle of 1970. rebuilt in every details according to the dealer.. price: 4080 Euro, with 5 years guarantee.
Yamaha U1 1970s. rebuilt similar as the U3. Price:3530 Euro. 5 years guarantee.
Which one do you recommend? Thank you so much!

I would not trust the U1 or U2 to be rebuilt in any significant way for those prices. Get independent verification if you opt for one of them.

It would rather surprise me if a 1970's U1 or U3 was rebuilt. Some refinishing, some hammer shaving but for that kind of money you won't get a fully rebuild piano.
So, if the piano is in great condition and has not been hammered (have it checked out by a tech!) the U series is better than the B2.
But by all means, don't limit your search to just three piano's and one brand, you're not doing yourselves a favor by doing that.

Welcome to Piano World! As a general rule, the taller the better... and the newer the better. I agree with the others, I doubt the U1 and U3 were completely rebuilt in every detail. I'm from Missouri on that one. Good luck, and keep us informed! Rick

Thanks guys.
@Wimpiano, I am in Sweden. so did I understand you correct that you feels it's too cheap IF it's fully rebuilt and not even hammered?? but BDB thinks it's too expensive??
But looks like none of you recommend B2? ... silent function is actully kind of important to me. do you think, if I buy the B2, Can I sell it with similar price after 4 years?

@smile_fei, I meant to say that any piano cannot be fully rebuild for that money. Those pianos are definitely not fully rebuild. It is very rare for pianos like the Yamaha U3 to be fully rebuild because rebuilding is very expensive and these pianos are just not worth it. (Buying a new one is cheaper then rebuilding an old one).
The other thing I meant to say is: 4000 euro can buy me more piano in the Netherlands. I don't know whether pianos are cheaper or more expensive here than in Sweden. It would either get me a new Chinese (but good) piano or a slightly used (as in 10-15 years old) European piano.
