Hello everyone.

I would first like to say thank you for the wealth of knowledge I have gathered while perusing the forums.

I am looking to purchase a DP to practice on primarily (I am a choir teacher with limited keyboard background - I'm a trombonist by trade). I love the feel of the Kawai's and feel that they are the best option for easy transference betwixt acoustic and digitals, both of which I use.

I have the opportunity to purchase a NEW floor model CA63 for about $2200, and a CE220 or CLP 430 for about $1800. These prices do not include tax. After looking at a bunch of threads, I think that I should be able to get a slightly better price from the dealer on the CA63, but am unsure if I should pursue that, or just get the CE220 (which essentially does everything I want/need with the exception of some really nice organ sounds on the CA63). Can I use the fact that its been a floor model for perhaps five years to get a substantially better price?

Just as an FYI, there is a CA65 and CA93 floor models for 3500 and 3400 respectively, but I am unwilling to pay an extra $1,000 for the escapement feature, and honestly would like to stay under $2,000 total if at all possible. (My yamaha dealer has expressed working with me on a good deal for a clp535, but I honestly feel that I prefer the action of both Kawai's, and I doubt that they would dip into a similar price range for me.

Thank you in advance for your advice - it is much appreciated!

The CA63 is well worth the extra 400 over those two models, IMO.

The CA65 has a new GF keyboard (which is reported to be lighter, I think, than RM3 on the 63/93 - maybe more responsive.)

The 93/95 pianos have an actual wooden soundboard mounted to the back as part of the sound system, so that also sets the 93 apart.

I think I'd go for trying to get a good deal - real reduced price - on the CA63 floor model once you've checked it's in perfect working order.

ps I'm not a Kawai aficionado but there are plenty on this forum who are, and will fill in / correct the details smile

I would make an offer for the CA93. The worst he can say is no, and even if he can't make your price, he may be able to come down. It's a discontinued model and a floor model, two things which drive the price down.

Have a max price you can pay in mind, but don't let them know that unless negotiations reach that amount. If the dealer can't come down at all, then go with the CE220. You always want to select the piano that feels the best to you, not something that is just "OK".

To help you negotiate a price, take a look at the Prices Paid thread on this forum. See what other dealers (not online) are selling the same model for.

Good luck!

Go to the Prices Paid Thread and find out what others have been paying for those models.

Thank you for the responses!

I was able to get better prices on all of the models, but the CA93 was still a bit out of my price range. I ended up getting the CA63 for $2066 out the door and am absolutely LOVING it!!

Thank you so much!

Good choice. It's a very nice piano indeed, and you've got it at a really good price - already tested against faulty parts and action, too. You win on all counts!

Congratulations on the purchase of your CA63! I just bought a floor model CA13 and am thrilled with it. The keys feel excellent and the sound quality is also great.

Enjoy your new piano!
