... this must be what it feels like for meth addicts to score after going without for days. Better for my ivories, though.

I blame Keith and Shaun. They made me an addict.

question, do you feel like you played better after a week off?

The first day of my trip I played for a couple of hours on a marginal piano, and I was not happy. After three days without touching any kind of piano, I arrived home ahead of schedule last night and so was able to play a bit late at night -- it was okay, but I was tired.

This morning, after the first good night's sleep in a week, I played well (for me) -- at least as well as before the trip. Whether that was because of taking a break for a few days, a good night's sleep, or both, quien sabe?

This time the break didn't hurt my playing. That's good enough for me!

Same here sometimes. I forget stuff during a break, but it seems that I forget more of the mistakes and bad habits than the parts I have right. If I'm messing up on a song, it helps to put it aside for a week, and play other things.

Ah, an addict blaming his dealer...

I am in bad shape after all that time away. I knew I was in trouble when I started to dream about my piano, as compared to my old spinet, which was also in the dream, with keys like a bird's nest of balsa wood! Which is probably exactly what they are, now...

Just back from a long weekend and in a very last minute decision put the digital in the car. Only got a few minutes each day on the piano and felt so guilty not doing scales and sight reading practice.
Strangely however upon return I do think the rest has done me good.

If I miss one day of practice, I notice it. If I miss two days, the critics notice it. If I miss three days, the audience notices it.Ignacy Paderewski, (1860-1941) Polish pianist and prime minister of Poland in 1919.
Where did he find all the time?

I think it was Jascha Heifetz, violinist extraordinaire, who first said this, and then the quote was attributed to others, including Horowitz.

I find that after a few days away I actually do better in some ways -- hand position, scales, exercises, and some tunes though I may have to play a bit slower at first.

Not sure why.
