Naturally, that wonderfully irrational key of e is the key that best describes me!

Those of you with acoustic pianos and tuners willing to play along can get an enhanced experience of key color by moving away from the default tuning of our age - equal temperament. I'd suggest starting out mild, to not jar the senses... Those of you with electronic keyboards may have some temperament choices buried in a menu somewhere - though most are pretty strong. Think about how many keyboard composers created works when the default tuning was was based on tonality, as opposed to chromatic - the tuning and the music work together to change the experience - both for the performer and listener. Like to see some graphs of different tuning to see the common characteristics? www.rollingball.comBe aware that this becomes a heated topic in the tuners' community... Ron Koval

That's exactly what I was thinking when I saw the title. Originally before equal temperament, keys did actually have their own characteristics. I have not listened to the program yet.

I like A Flat Minor (is not in there, 7 flats, very unusual) Are you an old soul, and somewhat world-wary? That would be A flat minor's enharmonic, G# minor. I have listened to G Sharp Minor: Wow, that is so not me

Many of them are pretty silly, but I am really enjoying them all! What fun! Sayonara, thank you so much for starting this thread!

Just listened to C Major, it defined what I used to be. It reminds me of so much.. In a way I am still like that, it is indeed, as the narrator says the child inside me, a striking resemblance.. But I am afraid to have changed partially to a minor key.. Still wondering what Minor key. A flat Minor or G sharp minor is perhaps a bit to extreme..

A teacher once told me I'm D major D major - my favorite key to play in. Interesting that it's not one of my favorite listening keys. I wonder if that's common. I am not especially interested in playing or listening to D major. I think the teacher ment that my character matches D major. So, do not confuse the key you like to play, or the key that you like listening to, with they key that you are matching with.

I like D major, for listening and playing. Pachelbel's Canon is in D major, just for a well-known example. (I haven't listened to the D major personality yet though, soon though!)

Interesting that interest in D major is being expressed, when I in fact think of it as my least favorite key.

I'm surprised to see no love for D minor, the saddest of all keys, and of course the foundation of the timeless classic, "lick my love pump."

Of course all this must be taken with a big grain of salt. I sincerely enjoy this stuff thought. I don't like horoscopes and zodiac signs and so on and don't think this is very related to it. It's more a psychological thing to me and I find it rather amusing.

Those sound like the words of an atonalist! Atonalist.. me? There's not much music that I don't like but (and I don't want to offend anybody, sorry if I do) I really despise atonal music.. Don't read the below if you don't want to. It is the living uglyness turned into music.. There is by the way scientific proof that we, as humans, are naturally not liking atonal music. It is an acquired taste (not easy to acquire) and I suspect that most people who actually like it, like it because it's different but not because it's pleasant to listen to.. However people are different so, everybody should listen what they like..

The foundation of "Nights (knights?) in white satin" when I play it. A good bluesy key which can gravitate to F, Bb etc as the mood takes you. Bit like me first thing in the morning, then having had my caffeine fix . . . .

I can't resist trying with one more! This is music by a living composer I've posted here and there in a few threads. To a person atonally adverse it might nonetheless have some stunning moments of orchestration and power if one listens in to it. [video:youtube]UlhkFAnQqNA[/video]
Maybe what we have here is music disrobed of convention and civility, naked in its power. Described like that maybe it is appealing. It even is in mixed meters.
