So I was surfing on a website and came across a midi file, and it wouldn't play. Missing plugin. "That's weird." I thought. I've never had that kind of problem before.

A quick search indicated that Apple has removed general midi support from OS X? What the heck Apple? That makes no sense. What possible reason could there be for that? So I have to download some external midi player to play mid files on OS X now, and right click on any midi file on the web and save it first? That's crazy!! Hopefully I'm missing something?

Anyway, if I have to kludge something together from some external ap, any recommendations?

That is, in fact, exactly what they did. Looks like you can still play them by installing QuickTime 7, but you could also install any other MIDI player if you wanted (there seem to be several).

It's so crazy! It's not like macs are famous for their use in the music industry or anything. Nuts. Do you know if any of the standalone midi players available will work as a safari plugin?

Warm Regards,

Did they eliminate this for Mavericks or have they removed functionality from M. Lion as well?

I have VLC installed and that works well enough for me (or Cubase, but you pay for that wink ).

Ah, that's a good point - the VLC browser plugin may do the trick.
