So, yes, friends and neighbors...

My dad is letting me pick out my own free Upright from craigslist/local newspaper. Of course, the piano will be inspected. I've my eye on one right now about 15 minutes from where I live....we may go see it tomorrow/contact the person who is giving it away. Even if not tomorrow, it will happen soon, and a new old piano will be in my hands in about two weeks. I know what to look for, soundboard, pinblock, hammers, strings....I AM READY! smile

My Spinet is a wonderful piano, but...it's too darn short! I'm tall, so.....I need a big un!

As long as I get one that doesn't have a dead clunky tone, I'll be extremely happy. It's hard, though, to find a truly 'free' piano...but I can swing with one that has a slight honky tonk sound! Bottom line, I'll end up with a fine example of american craftsmanship! It'll sound better than what I currently have as well. The one I'm thinking about getting looks OK inside (from the pictures) but is probably out of tune. Keytops and outside look great.

On a side note...went to an estate sale and saw a piano that had claws for toe blocks. It looked evil to me...! eek

Well, I'm not much of a player, but my YouTube video of me playing one of my old "honky-tonk" upright pianos has garnered over 650,000 views. So, there must be an audience for the old "honky-tonk" sound. smile

Congratulations, Wurlifan! smile

Yes, congratulations. Those old uprights can be a lot of fun or maybe yours will be a more recent vintage. Love to see photos.

Good luck WurliFan, hopefully you are not in a rush so that time will be on your side to find a good one.

Best wishes-

No rush, however, I would like to get a free one before school starts so I can have time to enjoy it, well, in the summertime! I go to test drive it in 4 days...I'm really excited! This thing looks TALL. I'd say cabinet grand ish. I have my iPod at the moment so here's what I'm looking at. https://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/msg/4590880799.html Thanks for all the comments. And Rick, I saw your video long before I joined PW....! You are very good! Once I get it I'll FINALLY make a piano video, LOL.
