I just picked up a 1894 Everett upright. It is structurally in great shape and should refinish really well. Surprisingly it sounds pretty good as well. I did notice one key sticks, one ivory keytop is missing and a couple of items inside the case have detached from their original location (sorry not an expert to tell you what parts they are). It is made a very pretty tiger oak.

I am looking for tips on refinishing this and trying to locate info on how to identify parts inside to repair it. I do not want to do a full restore inside as that may be too expensive. I am looking for info to be able to determine if this will be nice looking antique furniture or if $500 would get a me nice furniture and a decent sounding piano. Are there any documents related to this model of piano to help?

Any advise or tips would be helpful - thanks. I understand that this may only end up being furniture. It was free. But if I can gain an ok piano out it then great.

I have added the picture of it.

Everetts from that era were decent pianos, but $500 will not get you very far.

Hey, that's a nice looking old upright, and sounds like a great project!

I love the older uprights in good playable condition... that's about the only way they earn their keep. smile

I've done some refinishing on a few older uprights, and it can be a lot of work... but, if you have the time, energy, and funds, I say go for it!

As far as tips... a lot of elbow grease. smile
