I'm studying the second movement of Schubert' B-flat major sonata (D960). I realize that I don't know so much about him. In what period of his life and how did he write this sonata?
Is there any information about his interesting choice of key change. The second movement is is C sharp minor. I don't see any relationship (not a relative minor, not a fifth etc) and cannot figure out. I would like to read a book that discusses about these things. Thanks.

The wiki article is good. I've also had good luck with the New Grove little biographies, which are the extended articles from the dictionary about a composer or a period. the one about Schubert is very lengthy. They're not expensive, and you can get them on Amazon. They tend to stick to the music and be rather dry, but you learn a lot!
