Hello! I just wanted to share a few (poor) photos of my new Kawai K-500. I purchased it exactly one week ago as an upgrade from a Kawai CA-63 digital. The DP was much more practical for my current circumstance, but I was really pining for a nice acoustic piano, so I took the plunge. It sounds great, but I am still a beginner, so it will be a few years until I can do it any justice. By the way, why are there so few threads on the new K series? I think they're great, and I'd love to hear more from those who own or have played them.

is that the Schirmer's First Lessons in Bach Book I? i used that book as a beginner (and still do) and it is excellent learning material.

All were nice, but the K-500 was just right for me. I also played the Yamaha YUS3 and YUS5. The YUS5 was very nice, but it was more piano than I needed and more money than I wanted to spend. Yes, that's First Lessons in Bach. It's the complete volumes I and II, but I just started on the first minuet. I also have "Easy Classics to Moderns" by Denes Agay which I hope to get into as soon as I resume lessons after some "me time" with piano music and playing.

I took a group piano class at a junior college a few years back and the professor wanted us to get that.. Also a great book . However the schirmers Bach was a suggestion from a private teacher so I decided to buy.

Congrats on a good choice. There has been some (not a lot) of discussion of the new K series pianos here. I think the reason you don't hear more about them is they're a pretty new series (released in January, I believe), and not all the Kawai dealers have them yet - they need to sell out of their older inventory first. Another reason you might not hear so much about them here-- the limited number of dealers on this forum tend not to spend their time endlessly "hyping" their brand.

Sort of the same is the Essential Keyboard Repertoire. http://www.alfred.com/Products/Essential-Keyboard-Repertoire-Volume-1--00-501C.aspxSame idea but bigger (100 pieces instead of 20-30).

Hi smrkdown, Welcome to Piano World and congratulations on your beautiful, new Kawai K-500 piano!
I hope it will give you encouragement and motivation to pursue your piano studies. It does not matter if you are a complete beginner or an advanced student, a new quality, piano is the perfect incentive to keep practising.
Kind regards,
Robert.

I am in the beginning process of looking at pianos and have heard many good things about the Kawai K-500. My piano teacher recommends Kawai. Congrats and keep us updated on your progress. I, too, am a new adult beginner.

You'll not go far wrong with a good Kawai. Good product and a good company.

Well, I've got three of them (Kawai)... two uprights and a Howard/Kawai 550 (5'10") baby grand. Yes, they are good pianos in my view. So as not to promote one brand over another, I also have a Yamaha and a Baldwin... great pianos also! Looks like there are many fine piano makes out there... which makes the selection process all the more difficult. Rick

Congrats. I believe* I've played the K-500 , but definitely have played the K2 - K8 and really liked from K5 and up - and have played several of the new K-xxx's. I thought the new K-xxx's had everything the previous K series had, but the action was more sensitive. I think they're fantastic pianos, apparently I like Kawai's. I've noticed with Kawai, size really makes a difference and I personally think around the K5/K-500 is when they start sounding really sweet - so great choice. The K6/K8 I played were great, but it starts to get into baby-grand piano prices so probably only makes sense for people with baby-grand piano budgets but a small living space.
Anyway - great choice, congrats!
