Hello,

I have a Baldwin upright that was passed down by my mother. It was purchased (unknown if new or used) in the early 1980's I think. I've located a serial number I think, embossed in metal on the inside. The serial number is 1127194 and it also has Baldwin embossed in the metal on the inside. I'm trying to determine the model and year, and ultimately the value. I'm sure value ranges greatly based on condition, but I'm trying to find maybe high and low. Thank you in advance.

The model and serial number are usually on the metal plate or sometimes the model number is found on the back of the piano.

Also, there are too many numbers in the serial number you posted.

If the serial number is 127194, it appears to be 1954.

This website gives the date of manufacture

Baldwin piano serial numbers

but not the model.

This is an anomaly of Baldwin. Many of their console and spinet pianos, even if they do not say Acrosonic on them, number with the Acrosonic serial number series and not Baldwin.

Bruce is usuallt spot on with his advice, but this is a nuance of the piano industry. According to the Acrosonic listing 1127194 was built in 1977:

Cheers!

Thanks for the clarification on the "nuance," Rich. I see now that had I checked under Acrosonic and not Baldwin, I would have come up with the date of 1977.

Cheers!

Thank you for the great information. All the emblems and stickers say Baldwin, so that doesn't change anything right? Also, can you give me a rough low and medium value? It hasn't been tuned in years. It functions great, but some of the lacquer is coming off. Thank you!!!!

No one except a piano tech actually examining the piano could give you an idea of its current value. Value depends upon condition, and condition doesn't just mean appearance and how it plays, although those help. It also means condition of the action, wear on action parts, condition of the felt and leather parts, all or some of which might need replacement - or might not - after almost 40 years.

Value also depends on the condition of the local market.

The fact that it hasn't been tuned in years is not necessarily a good thing; that means it hasn't had any care or attention and what could have been a small expense in the past might be cause for a larger expense (and lower value) at present.

If you really want to know its value, get a technician to give you a precise evaluation.
