Where?

It is my understanding that dealers only hire RPTs.

I could be wrong.

Sadly HW you are quite right .... the vast majority of dealers employ tuners that are generally accepted as being competent and established. Where as years ago one would be apprenticed to the dealer's workshops, who would pay very nominal wages in return for increasingly more expertise as we young apprentices gained proficiency under the tutorship of a workshop trainer / mentor.

5 and 7 year apprenticeships where common place when I trained, and although the company in effect trained their apprentices for free, after a year or two, they virtually got a skilled member of staff working for peanuts until his apprenticeship was completed.

Good afternoon, Mark.
My understanding is that you teach folks how to tune their own pianos via Internet. This is another thing entirely and not the subject of my comments. In my view you are qualified to teach piano technology (via Internet or elsewhere) to those who desire to go into business as well. You are not a shortcut. Shortcut is The Downloader who think he is qualified to tune professionally in the field after reading an ebook and practicing on a piano for a few weeks. We've seen plenty of these come and go leaving a trail of destruction.

That's what I thought you meant. Thanks for clarifying.

Yes, but their family never miss coal!

Viva capitalism and his good aspects!
