Hello - what digital piano would you recommend in the $700-$1800 price range? Want it for mostly classical/cover music. Priorities include best piano sound, great action, and able to travel with it.
Thanks - Greg

Greg, do you require built-in speakers?
Also, can you clarify what you mean by "be able to travel with it"? Are you intending to gig with this instrument? How often will you be travelling?
If you have not done so already, it may be worth visiting some music shops in your area to get a feel for what is available within your budget.
Cheers, James x

traveling in the van to the in-laws. Also, if the speakers sound good, then yes built in speakers. However, if it is a great leap in quality to get one without built-in speakers then that is fine. Budget is between $700 and $1800 or so.

You have a huge number of options in that price range, and any of them would make an excellent choice.
With speakers
The Casio Privia PX line is very well regarded for their value (very good sounds and features at a low price). Casio used to be known for toy pianos and junky keyboards, but in recent years they've really stepped up their game.
With Speakers PX-150 and PX-350. The 350, has a lot more bells and whistles, and in my view is worth the upgrade in price if you can afford it. These would be at the low end of your budget, but they are well worth considering.
Without Speakers PX5S This is geared more towards touring musicians. It gives you a lot of advanced features and sound editing capabilities. But it lacks speakers.
--------------------------
Kawai's Budget line, the ES 100 is worth a look. It has speakers.
It would be stretching your budget a bit, because it doesn't have speakers, but kawai's MP7 is just barely in your price range and is definitely worth a look. It's probably the most feature rich stage piano in your price range.
----------------------------
Yamaha has the P255 that is well within your budget, has speakers, and a very good balance of features. it's definitely worth a look.
I'd also look at Roland's FP50 and especially the FP80. They also have speakers and are very capable pianos.
You'll probably get lots of other suggestions. You really have a lot of options. Visit some music stores and get your fingers on some if you can. See what deals they can make you. You might be pleasantly surprised at what's available.
Warm Regards
Nord Stage 2 HA88 Roland RD800

With speakers, I'd look at Roland FP-80 and Kawai ES7 (which are typically $2k, but with some aggressive shopping, could probably be had within your $1800 budget) and Yamaha P255 (which is more easily in your budget). If you want something less expensive, Kawai ES100. I do like the mentioned Casio PX-350/PX-150 as controllers, the actions are nice and the boards are very portable, but I'm not so keen on how they play with their internal piano sound. But there's a lot of subjectivity to this...
Without speakers, you're complicating the travel aspect and have to reduce the piano budget by the price of the speakers (unless you will be using headphones).

Thanks - Greg For classical and what's considered best piano sound and great action on a digital piano, it's hard to beat the Kawai MP10 and now MP11, which are street-priced around $2,500 before speakers. But my almost two-year old MP10 is on consignment at DCPianos in Berkeley and I think they've priced it at $1500 and I can say that it wasn't played that much, as I have another digital piano and it has speakers attached. The MP10 I used when I wanted to play with headphones. I just bought a Kawai K6 acoustic piano (upright) so I needed to free up space. With the MP10 (I can't imagine better action on a digital), I didn't at first have good results recording direct to an SD card in the attached slot, because I recorded to mp3 instead of WAV, but it did much better on recording direct to a WAV file on SD card. I have a sample, recorded to WAV, then converted to mp3, at Kawai Mp10 test: recording to WAV on SD card It's played by ear, just testing MP10 recording feature, so it has cuts where my note memory failed me. If interested in the used digital (which has no scratches on it), you can get info on it by talking to: Eric at DC Pianos in Berkeley, California, at 510-549-9755 -- Here's the the Yelp reviews page for them. The original box is with it, as is the manual and a book of classical music that came with it. Regulars: Let me know if I shouldn't post this here and where I might post it instead. Thanks.

I can't edit the previous post but wanted to update it with the information that the MP10 was sold, for the estimated price. It's really an excellent digital piano. (The buyer was apparently wanting a new MP6 for the cost factor, but was shown the used MP10 for almost the same amount.)
