What do you guys sit on? Any suggestions for a good bench?

My answer is non-standard:

I'm using an office chair (adjustable height, with rolling base) with the back and arms taken off.

It works pretty well. There are some people who have used "drum thrones", a similar answer.

Another chair user here. I use a child's dining chair, cut down to the height that suits me. It looks quite classy IMHO. (I am on the side of life's travel where you revert to childlike). At my teacher I sit on a quite hard duet bench, and it's fine for the lesson.

Choice of a bench comes down to what feels like to you. Currently I use a CPS adjustable

This bench is MUCH more comfortable and sturdy in comparison with the On-Stage bench I had originally bought. I also felt this model offered the best "bang for buck"

My favorite bench in the Jansen artist bench. It's quite spendy, but I also own cheaper knock-offs and you really can tell the difference.

A flat bench is just not compatible with my weak back, so I use an office chair, no arms, at max height, with kitchen chair cushion, and one layer of carpet pad to get to a good height. So, when I sit I deliberately place myself hard to the back of the chair . This keeps my pelvis rotated toward the piano, and relieves any strain of the back at the pelvis. The only problem with this was when I tried it with a slippery covering on the carpet pad that allowed me to slip forward which removed the pelvis support. Have to make sure there is no slipping in the layers.

Until recently, I was using an old kitchen chair that I appropriated for the purpose, but it broke, so I bought the cheapest piano stool online that I could find (costing the equivalent of $20) which has a decent cushion, is adjustable and looks sturdy enough.

It works well, though I miss not being able to lean back with smug satisfaction when I've played through a particularly difficult piece without mistakes (because I'd topple backwards, and that isn't good for my piano playing....) .

I only use a hard (uncushioned) chair nowadays. Something about this particular chair's subtle slope and centralized indentedness feels very rooting.

If you get a bench make sure it is adjustable.

By finding the right height and distance from the keys many technical issues a pianist can labour at (such as related to evenness of scales when the thumb passes under the hands) may suddenly disappear and be revealed to have been due to an inappropriate orientation to the piano.

Mine's - Solid as a rock. Like an organ stool. Stops me dozing off. . .

For my acoustic piano, I have a piano stool that's decades old, that was always with the piano (when I inherited it, at the age of 8).

For my digitals, I have two of these, which go pretty well with the finish on my digitals.

I tried a few other arrangements including the Jansen Petite Artist, but I prefer the Jansen Artist Bench.

I can set there as long as I want without any issues even with the vinyl covering. And, it looks great.

In April 2012, I picked up a quite used Petite bench on Craigslist, reupholstered it, repainted it and sold it for a reasonable profit. Went a long ways to pay for the Artist version.
