Can you recommend to me a piece that would compliment Fur Elise? Preferably something short, upbeat, and in a major key.

Thanks! smile

An easy piece: Minuet in G, WoO 10 No.2.

Considerably more difficult: Rondo a capriccio in G, Op.129 ("Rage over a Lost Penny").

Both also by Beethoven. Or look at one of his numerous Bagatelles.

Maybe something modern like the the rags by Martha Mier? Those are really short and crowd-pleasing for the unsophisticated recital audience.

If you're looking to stay in early music, the Bach Prelude, BWV 999, c minor, is a lot more contrasting than the C Major. However, to get closer to the classical period, you might explore the Solfeggietto, CPE Bach. However, I'd encourage you to come forward at least to the middle of the 20th century. About the same level of difficulty as the Beethoven is the delightful Sonatina Humoresque by C. Tsitsaros. Composed in the 21st century! You might really enjoy it.

It is indeed an excellent composition. But I'm having a hard time selling it to my students. The most common reaction: "It sounds weird."
