Hi, i'm new in this world, i wanted to learn piano since 7, but never had the money to afford one.

Now i'm 24 and have the opportunity to buy an used digital piano, i'm from argentina, i have these 2 options for the same price and i don't know which is better and the reasons (pros and cons), hope you can help me.

1) Casio Privia Px-150.

2) Casio Privia Px-730.

Thanks for your appreciated time.

Best Regards.

P.D: sorry if my english is not the best.

The PX150 has newer piano-sound technology, but unlike the PX-730 does not come with furniture and likely has worse speakers. Pick what matters most to you.

PMFJI --

There were two changes (among others), going from the PX-x30 series (older), to the PX-x50 series (current):

1. The keyboard action was improved;

2. The sound generator was improved.

You can see a video that compares the old against the new -- look up "PianoManChuck" on Youtube. I think that the superior action would be better for learning:

. . . The closer you get to an "acoustic piano feel", the happier you'll be.

The one thing you _can't_ change, in a DP, is the physical keyboard action. So I'd pick the PX-150 on that basis.

It sounds a lot better through headphones, than through its own loudspeakers. But you can add better speakers when you have the money. You can use Pianoteq (piano-simulating software on a computer), if you want to improve the PX-150 sound.

But you're stuck with the action.

. Charles

PS -- bias -- I own a PX-350 (same keyboard action as the PX-150), and like it. I'm also using Pianoteq and a large outboard loudspeaker. The "under-$1000" DP's are good, but they're not perfect.

. . . or, I'm just a gearhead.<g>

You might want to consider making a cabinet for it. Since it has upward facing speakers, you can give it an opening lid like some of the PXs and AP series have. I find the sound quality on mine has improved greatly since it now comes from within the instrument. And it was great fun doing.

Peter's, do you have any pics of your hand made cabinet? Would love to see it.

You made the right choice. Now, $100 max, pick up some used Logitech Z2300's. Put the satellites on top of your PX-150 and the subwoofer underneath. You will notice a remarkable improvement in sound.

Next, for less than $150 on eBay, get Pianoteq Standalone and run it through your laptop and through your Z2300's or any studio monitor.

These two steps will turn your Toyota Corolla into a Lexus, or at least into a Camry XLE!

Best of luck!

Here it is. I posted it on another section, but the images seem to not be there for some reason. Any slab piano will fit in there except those larger MP11 Kawais . . .mind you, they might . . . The back is open so there`s every chance.

I remain very impressed by the professional appearance of your cabinet, Pete, and the brightly-colour bench cushion is a nice touch.

Cheers,
James

Thanks James its based on an Eavestaffe minipiano of British vintage which was arguably the worst sounding piano ever made IMO. . .the stool is I believe from the same stable. Its higher than what one would expect from a non adjustable stool particularly from those days.

WOW, what a beautiful cabinet. You could go into business. Are you a cabinet maker, you are from up north, where good cabinet makers come from?

Really impressive. Did you design it?

Thanks for showing us this fab piece of furniture.

There's nothing elaborate about it. Cheap materials like hardboard which paint up well. Never done this before so I thought I'd give it a try. Maybe utilise decent stuff later on. But I probably/certainly won't!
