I recently was able to purchase a piano, an instrument I've always loved and wanted to learn how to play and I'm looking for piano teachers but I don't know what to look for. Don't know how much the lessons usually cost or all that stuff. Do you guys have any tips on how to find a good teacher.

"Usually" depends on too many factors (location, quality of teacher, etc.) but since the studio I go to publishes it's rates online I'm happy to say what I pay: $283 per month for 60 minute lessons. Actually a little less because I'll get a rebate at the end of the year which I can use for Summer lessons. Studios differ - some are per month; many are per week.

That's Northern VA which is a pretty expensive area to live in.

Oh, as to finding a teacher - I found mine online. Not all teachers can be found that way - word of mouth is a big way teachers are found.

My teacher is older and hasn't raised his rate since he started over 30 years ago. I offered him to get more but he doesn't want to.
It is so little money that I don't dare to post it here.

Generally ... a dollar per minute is pretty reasonable ... 2 dollars per minute is pretty steep.

Anything in between is possible.

Depends what country you are in. $50 - $60AU per hour seems to be the norm here.

Much has been written about finding a good teacher for example read this.

Before you start your search you need to have a clear idea of what you want to learn, classical, pop, jazz etc. Will you take exams etc, how much time and effort you want to put in to this.

Surprisingly easy, barely an inconvenience.

The school where I take charges about $84 an hour for a private lesson and $22 an hour for a small class. I think the price for the private lesson is pretty high for upstate New York. I found out that most teachers in this area charge between $40 to $50 an hour even those who rent studio space.I have a friend who goes to New York City for lessons and she only pays about $90 an hour. I would expect prices to be higher there. I still take the class but the teacher I had for private lessons left the school and I still take from him. He is charging much less. Of course, he did not get even half of what the school was charging. He is now teaching with his mother who is also a piano teacher. They teach out of her house so I realize they do not have to pay rent.

I pay RMB200 per hour. That includes a support service during the week if I am stuck on something. So I get 2 lessons a week. One is with a teacher in her thirties who is very encouraging. 1 is with a younger woman who studied piano at conservatory. She tells me the truth :-((

I pay the equivalent of about US$50 for a 60 minute lesson weekly. She's very flexible if I have to miss a slot (which is rare), and provided I give her a couple of days' notice, will fit me in at some other time that week.
