Have all postings in this forum been made by the purported posters themselves? At times, it looks like different people are posting under one and the same name confused

Strange. I've often thought, and heard others speculate, about people having multiple online personae (i.e. sock puppetry) but have never imagined multiple people behind a single public image. What would be the point?

Multiple personality disorder. Don't tell them. They are one.

EDIT: Seriously... I'd be interested in who you think is Cibyl?

We're actually pretty good about catching folks who try to register twice.

It is a definite no-no on this site and does qualify the guilty party for instant banishment.

The OP is describing a situation which is the opposite of registering twice. Multiple persons are all posting under a single registration. Large Family ?

People can, and do change their persona, when it suits them, depending on the situation. It comes more easily - and naturally - to some people than to others. And it isn't 'multiple personalities' I'm talking about wink .

I'm pretty sure that none of my colleagues at work would recognize me from my posts here, for instance, including those who know that I tinkle the (fake) ivories a little, when I'm in the mood (and occasionally when I'm not in the mood....... grin). I'm a serious guy in a serious job wink , except when I'm not.

In PW, I'm pretty light-hearted with my posts. Except when I'm not.......

Ah, sorry, I misunderstood.

That's rather trickier to figure out smile

KJ, it is not you nor the other names mentioned so far. Folks, just be perceptive about inconstencies in writing styles and backgrounds of posters. Not amused about ghostwriters eek

Is it you, doremi(s)? grin

To be honest, after a while, I find that I can guess who's posting just from their writing style, without looking at their handle. However, some people may have deeper mood swings from day to day, which could limit one's ability to pinpoint the persona. But I can't really understand why anyone would share their name, nor can I see the point in hacking a piano forum to steal an identity. As James has requested, examples are the only way to understand the suspicions you've raised, doremi. (But I can understand why you might not wish to make direct accusations.)

Does that happen a lot? Why would someone even do that?

I would think they would do that because their personality has fallen "out of favor" with many of the members of this forum and they wish to get a "fresh start". Usually, they go right back to "themselves" quickly and that is how they reveal themselves. I really have not detected any of those but I suppose they exist.

People promote their biz with questionable means at times. Sockpuppets is one thing, ghostwritings is a different thing. Don't feel like explaining these things.

Sometimes it is a case of someone who has been banned trying to get back in: in which case they get banned again.

Sometimes it is people who live in the same house using the same computer - family or flatmates. In which case it is allowed - but we're definitely talking about 2 ids here not 2 users with 1 ID.
