I paid slightly over $6K for my B3, including tax, delivery, free first tuning, trade-in offer. I live in MD.

During my piano shopping, I realize those of you who live in west coast, especially California are so lucky with the very low prices for both new and used piano, upright and grand.

For those including me live around DC, are so miserable for probably the highest price paid for the same piano.

Sigh!

It would be fair if the people on the east coast would benefit of lower prices on European pianos to the same extent as people on the west coast befit from lower prices on asian pianos. If that were the case then the east coast was really lucky..

That's what I was suspecting. Prices of European instruments are insane in the US. For this kind of money you can have a used (not too old, certainly not 30 years) Schimmel, Grotrian, Seiler, whatever, you name it here..

I figured European pianos would still be relatively expensive even in Europe. I guess I came to that conclusion because cars, like BMW's for example, are still pretty expensive in Germany (as I was told by a German friend). Never been to Germany but when I was in England and France, I saw less BMW's there than in the US. But that may be because of gas prices, space constraints, taxes - or the ability to drive 80mph/130kph on a daily basis.

Cars are expensive because 50% of the price is tax. That does luckily not apply to pianos.

edit: sorry for the little trip off topic.

Thanks for all the input guys. We ended up deciding to go with the new B3 for $6000. With the ten year trade up, our budget and the quality and age of the instrument in mind, we decided that would probably be the best way to go.

Thanks again everyone smile

I am happy to hear that someone who is much more advanced than I am decided to get B3. It just convinces me that Yamaha B3 is a good piano.
