Since the MP11 doesn't have a dedicated thread like the MP7 does, I'm starting one.

Ordered an MP11 locally for $2695AUD with a 5 year warranty. Very reasonable IMO, I remember the days when a Yamaha P80 cost over $3,500AUD.

Also ordering a K&M 18953 piano stand from thomann.de, I like how it has a wider base than the 18950, and it should be even more stable as it's not adjustable lengthwise.

I'm thinking of getting some speaker stands so I can position my Yamaha HS80M monitors, I think they'd be too big to sit on the instrument itself.

Anyway, should be collecting it mid November, I'll post pics of my setup then.

Congrats to both of you. wink

bubbamc119, I'm curious as to why you purchased the stand (good choice of brand by the way!) from Thomann.de - were you unable to find the same model in Australia? Don't you get stung on import duty or shipping fees?

I recommend speaker stands, certainly. You may be able to squeeze the speakers on top temporarily (I'm seen a few pics using such a setup), but it's not something I'd consider for the long term.

Cheers,
James

My MP11 should arrive tomorrow from Sweetwater. That is what the tracking number indicates. The JBL LSR305's arrived today. Everyone is very excited here! My husband is going to build the stand.

Yes thanks to PW. I made my decision based on the feedback here. Also thanks to Kawai James who never bashes other brands and provides advice to problems that people have faced. Seems like an extra layer of customer and technical support. I'm sure Kawai knows that some of us are buying without trying the keys out. Can't find them anywhere to try them.

My first DP will be a MP11!

Hi James,
K&M stands are hard to find here, and if you can the prices are high.

I couldn't find the 18953 anywhere here, and the 18950 is ~$350AUD with a 6 to 8 week lead time.

The 18953 from Thomann works out to about $210AUD (I haven't verified shipping yet so this may increase slightly), import duty is not applicable on anything less than $1000AUD.

My MP11 is also arriving from Sweetwater tomorrow...our DPs are obviously brothers and came over in the same container. However, this will be my third try -- the first 2 were lemons. I've never been so simultaneously excited and completely pessimistic at the same time. With the scarcity of this thing, this entire process has been going on for MONTHS...

A few more hours! We hope for the best. Maybe the delay is some extra work on them. I have waited 8 weeks.

Any idea on what speaker stands you'll get? Right now I have small monitors that sit on top, but if they were any larger I'd want them on stands, for sure.

The issues are detailed in a couple of other threads here...the first one had some minor dents on the back panel and also had a strong smell. The second one had bad action (all the black keys made a thud when released). How I wish I had just stuck with the first one. I can't even bear to think about what might be wrong with tomorrow's delivery...

Just a few words too about the very kind community here:
Itīs a great pleasure to share our passion and differences with everybody.

All the topics and contribution certainely help me a lot.
Thanks for that.

back to the mp11:
I have to modify some things at home for it because it's the bigger stage piano available on the market.
I always put my stage piano under another keyboard on a double stand and my RTX stand won't fit(not enough place under for the MP11 width
I have to buy another double stand with enough space for it.
It seems the hercules ks410 is a good choice.

Another thing:
I'm essentially a live player.
So do you know a good flight case compatible?
I haven't receive it(tomorrow)but i don't know if my SKB hard case 88 will fit.
If not,do you know what flight case fit?

I'm waiting for my MP11 too. Although the seller warned me that I will receive it on last weeks of November, yesterday he call me to say that perhaps I will have it today or next monday.

I already have a JBL LSR305 pair of monitors and waiting for a K&M 18950 stand.

While I wait impatiently, this is what my facebook advertises to intrigue my friends:

I use these for my JBL LSR305s: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005JTV358 (Ultimate Support JSMS70 Speaker Stand)

I am happy with them. They are height adjustable.

Any of you know if its possible to assign some fader/knob to expression MIDI data? I'm thinking to buy a Yamaha FC7 Expression Pedal (or any other you recomend me that works perfect with the Kawai Mp11), but while I'm waiting it will be great if there's a possibility to control MIDI expression on my DAW with any fader of the Kawai Mp11.

I appreciate the good thoughts. However, I'm sort of in limbo about whether I got yet ANOTHER lemon, or whether I'm just being too picky. I'm going to resume this discussion in the "Kawai MP11 black key noise" thread, so things stay on topic:

i've just received my MP11 this morning and played 1,30 h with it(freely playing and testing all sounds):
My feeling is focused on the keybed/sound connection:
This is absolutly gorgious!!!

All seems so natural for a digital stage piano.
I never had a stage piano at this level for the keybed.
It is so organic, easy to play.more alive in the connection and more acoustic.
I found it so easy to play even if the keybed is heavier than some others...
I'm not tired with it.
Very very good!

Congratulations on your purchase, and thanks for sharing your thoughts on it with us. I look forward to hearing more from you as you get more familiar with the DP. I'd be particularly interested in how it compares to my latest purchase, my RD800.

Yes i am lucky to play or have played on most of them.
i'm trying to stay honest,pragmatic..
My point of view isn't a classical player vision however, just a stage player who play pop/rock/jazz/funk/blues....

To try to answer to your question,i must say the roland and kawai are a little different for the advantage and disadvantage.

the Rd 800 is my favorite "all purpose stage piano"because it is the best compromise for:
-sounds(very good pianos and eps,and hundreds of synth and acoustic sounds..maybe the best stage piano on the market for synth sounds)
-keybed:a very good keybed for the weight!
-functions:
very powerful for editing pianos(and better than kawai for the eps editing)..and all is clear.
-ergonomy:
as powerful than easy to use if you master it.

Well...i must say i love it and i love beeing his pilot on stage.

The kawai mp11:
The difference with the roland is at first as a pure pianist vision:
-piano spunds and keybed connection is the best available(the more i play the more i feel that.
-hardware. is beautiful:
This beautiful metal case and wood panels are sooo sexy..

But:
-less sounds than RD800:
While some pads and strings are really good, there are not enought for all purpose.
It's pure keyboards sounds oriented, for all outside the keyboards sounds tje roland is better.
-kawai put a lot of more sounds in the Mp7(while less than the rd800 too)
I regret not to have for example the (quite good)organ engine from the Mp7 and all the others sounds.
I totally understand why kawai made the Mp11 more "keyboards sounds"exclusive,(to keep the price because the Mp11 is at a very good price for all it offer)but more is good to have, and i personnaly would have pay more for some parts of the Mp7 in the Mp11.

All is clear:
-You want the more subtile pianist sensation in a stage piano..buy the kawai.
-you want the best all purpose stage piano without sacrify good pianist sensation(but a little less than the Mp11)buy the Rd800.

For the other things(keyboard controler, easy to use),they are absolutly so pleasant to use whatever you choose.

But in the Mp 11 all is perfectly implemented.
Kawai engineers are near perfection for the way they think ergonomy, and i love roland too.
Conclusion:
Don't think i'm too enthousiast than objective:
These are my choices and alway is well analysed for my needs.
I spent a lot of time thinking about what's the best for me.
And i found it.

ChoPraTs, the function of the MP11's section faders is fixed to controlling volume, however expression can be assigned to one of the four control knobs, as explained on page 48 of the owner's manual.

I hope this helps.

Kind regards,
James

lekanout, thank you for sharing your thoughts.

You clearly have a considerable amount of experience with stage pianos (including the latest boards), so it's interesting to read your comparisons.

Kind regards,
James

Thanks james.
i've played more the Mp11 yesterday, and i think it is maybe the stage piano who feels more near "like a real acoustic instrument"than all i ever hadīon a hardware instrument.

The keybed is incredible.
The way the key react on all the course is the big difference.
It doesn't feel simulated (even if there are good simulations)like the others.

No one judging the sound here?
Of course itīs the GREATEST action Iīve ever played, too.
Iīm totally IN the Mellow Grand now, but I still canīt feel the other pianosounds except the first E-piano which is very good (I rarely play E-piano).
I have ONE sound I totally agree with and I play several hours a day.
My fingers luckily are getting stronger so I run the keys and feel very comfortable!

interesting question...but impossible to answer.
Exemple:
Quote:

That's why itīs impossible:

I personnaly never play the mellow grand, not because i don't like it,but just because i need other types of piano sounds.
Since 2 days,i edited a upright piano for playing blues and rock'n roll like i want.
when i'm playing pop i'm using the pop type preset or the fist concert grand.

Well, just to say no matter the sound we prefer.
The most important is the Mp11 ability to fit various type of piano sounds for varous type of piano players.
And this kawai is very very good for that.:))
