I've been looking for a nice arrangement, too!
Here's my favorite version, although I think she may be professional (?); she plays beautifully!

(I hope I did this correctly...)

She's appeared on Scott Houston's Piano Guy series several times and is a professional concert pianist. She's from Russia I believe.

I am not an expert but to me the young american guy with the digital keyboard in his bedroom looks like playing infinitely better...
Regardless of the "funny" version of Canon in D.
Too much funny!

Yes, just improvisation.
A truly inspirational guy.
His channel is full of amazing videos, and of messages of teenage followers declaring they have started to study piano because of him.

Does anyone know if there is a recording available of Robert Schultz's piano arrangement of Canon In D?

I will elaborate a bit further. I have the sheet music arrangement by Schultz for advanced piano. I have tried to find a recording of a pianist performing the piece as the notes appear in my sheet music. Admittedly, I am taking this on as a big challenge for myself. However, I don't see other pianists with greater experience perform this piece as it was written. The more difficult parts are often modified (which I'm tempted to do). It would be far more motivating to learn it as it was arranged if I could hear it played as written. Any suggestions or ideas? Or are my expectations unrealistic?

On Youtube there are some Schultz's arrangements of Canon in D, have you already check all of them?

Yes, I checked many. Most were shorter and easier versions. The others were modified by the pianist. Thanks.

Guess i finally stumbled upon this while learning canon myself. achat, you ever got around to master it?

Just out of curiosity, is there an underlying pattern to the RH notes from measure 31 and 32 as well as from measure 33 to 40 ? I would like to be able to know at least one nice piece from memory and I've think this one is not a hard one to be able to recite from memory.

So I was thinking also of working on the canon from alfred book 2. How's the galloway ver compared to the one in alfred book 2 in term of difficulty?

Here's the ver in alfred book 2:

Earlier in this thread Monica K's version of the Galloway version of Canon in D was referenced and it is still the version I prefer. It is harder than the Alfred AIO version, but the Alfred version is a reasonable one to start with, IMO.

Interesting, I thought the alfred ver a little harder as it seems to have more tempo changes and different rhythm between the two hands. I guess i ama beginner so that might be the problem. the harder part for me in galloway version the speed of LH towared the 2nd part playing 16th notes. Toward the end of the galloway when both LH and RH hand play same 16th note speed i actually find that part easy to do once i got the pattern down.

I thought the Galloway was easier in the sense of how it flowed and its overall "tunefulness," but the sixteenth notes and just the sheer length of it made it harder to master, especially if you plan to do it from memory (as I did). Yes, the Alfred has tempo and rhythm changes, but overall the piece is on the short side (compared to other versions) and thus those pieces could be dealt with more expediently, imo.

I got the Alfred version to an 'okay' level and then switched to the Galloway version, as I liked it so much better and wanted to spend my time on a version I really enjoyed. However, it took me a lot longer to get the Galloway version to an 'okay' level than for the Alfred version. By the way, the Galloway version doesn't seem nearly so lengthy to me now that I've started working on sonatinas. smile

well, after practicing the galloway ver for 6 months on end, i actually have every note down in muscle memory. I still can't quite play the 16th notes LH at speed at the part where LH and RH are different speed. But at the part where both LH and RH play 16th notes i am just about able to do it at the appropriate speed.

I guess now after i got the whole thing down in memory, the galloway ver doesn't seem that long. My first piece that I learn was Minuet in G so Galloway Canon was like an exponential in difficulty. But I am glad I got it in memory.

I thought the canon in c by winston is probably the harder version. You tried that one?

Time for to test out this alfred ver...:)...

I could not find a version that seemed good enough for my students so I arranged a version. Hope you find this useful.
