Somewhere in my dusty memory banks I remember thinking that more than one piano was used for those scenes in that movie. Can anyone verify or dispute that? Yes, if you read to the end of the article it talks about the second piano.

Somewhere in my dusty memory banks I remember thinking that more than one piano was used for those scenes in that movie. Can anyone verify or dispute that? There were two on-screen 58 key pianos, one for the Paris café, and the other for the one in Casablanca. They shot the actual music scenes with an additional offscreen piano played and mixed during production into the original optical track. Dooley Wilson was a brass player, so he had enough musical knowledge to mimic the arm movements quite well. But the onscreen pianos were muted. Edit: Just looked it up, the offscreen pianist was Elliot Carpenter.

Don't forget the commission--it really sold for $3.4 million. Was this the highest priced little piano ever?

The real question: do we hear piano notes in the movie that are outside the range of that short keyboard?

The real question: do we hear piano notes in the movie that are outside the range of that short keyboard? I don't know, but I do know that the piano sound was dubbed into the movie and not played by Sam.

A nightclub where I tune had a Tom Thumb piano like that which they put on a wagon which was pulled through the club to serenade the different diners, in the old days when it was a supper club. I fixed it up for the owner's children to play when they were growing up.
I like Tom Thumbs. They were well-built, despite their diminutive size.

Somehow it looks to me that the case around the piano is perhaps more worth than the piano itself... Norbert
