I found this forum the other night while surfing for piano stuff. I have enjoyed reading the different threads.

I started back to the piano this spring. I had not played since 2000 when I fell on ice and broke my right arm in four places and cracked the wrist bone. It also had a lot of soft tissue damage in my wrist and hand. I did not have enough flex to play. Over the years I would try but it just did not work. I have such a habit of constantly working and flexing my hand so it will not go stiff, it has been improving over time. My husband caught me looking at organs on the web one night and talked me into trying the piano again. It was a little stiff but I could finger somewhat. I play/practice maybe 20 minutes at a time now. I have worked up to some hymns out of the hymn book and some pop songs that's on the easier side. The playing is actually improving the flex of the hand.

As for my music, I took a few lessons while growing up. My parents did not have the money for the most part but I got enough to read music and have a grounding in basic theory.I started playing the organ in the 80's which I love but my organ is dead. Bad power supply--needs major rebuild and after that the electronics may have problems. I don't know I ever afford that. So I will work on the piano and be very happy doing it.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving and stay warm.

Pat

Great! Don't overdo it, just keep things gentle.

You might post something on the "Digital Pianos & Synths" forum. Some of the people know a bit about organs. I don't see why a power-supply repair should be terribly expensive. [But if this is a "vintage" organ, _everything_ could be expensive!]

It is a vintage organ- Baldwin Cinema II. Power Supply was 6 large positive ground caps that all need replacing to even begin. Probably more electronic parts are out and most are no longer on the market.

Let's keep the ball rolling this year playing or practicing everyday even if it's for 10 minutes.

Ouch! That sounds like a vacuum-tube rig:

. . . You have my sympathy.

There are still a fair number of ham radio operators running tube rigs, but both the operators and the rigs are dying off.

Strange you mention ham radio operators. I am KS4IW and the husband is N4XXI. We are a dying breed. Mostly due to cell phones and internet.

I am KD80ZK. Good luck with the organ, keep an eye on Craigslist, there are a lot of nice organs that come up for very low $'s or free around here. I have a fairly decent Gulbransen with full pedals, etc. that was given to me. Just had to pay for Professional Movers.

Happy Holidays...
