Now I've finally got a proper piano keyboard I have found a whole new world of discovery. Before I got the piano I thought, hmm I'm gonna have to learn pedaling when I do get one. But pedaling is the smallest issue. The keyboard is so different to that of a home keyboard, which was all I'd ever played. With a piano you have to work to get the notes. After 10 minutes I found my wrist aching a little.
Its work but its good work!
So my advice to anyone starting out is to get a keyboard with a piano action. Unless you plan to be an organist

There's a lot of back and forth about learning on a DP, but everyone agrees weighted keys are a must. Larry, make sure you don't attempt too much at one time. Aching wrists are a little worrisome.

Try not to use fingers to press the keys so much as the arm weight behind them. Tension in the hands and wrists that is sustained over a period of time turns into fatigue and then pain. These are signs that you will need to rework your technique to be able to play piano.

If you are able to post a video of you playing we may be able to offer some suggestions to get you started, but I highly recommend you find a teacher that can walk you through this transition safely and most effectively.

When I say aching I don't mean chronic pain, I just meant that I could feel that my hand had been working. With an organ type keyboard there is virtually no work involved-the keys are just sprung switches.
A teacher is not an option for me Im afraid...
