Hi All! This is my very first post so please be forgiving. I have played the violin when younger and performed at Carnegie as well as Philharmonic hall in various youth orchestras but always yearned for the piano. I took some Piano lessons when younger but between the piano, trumpet, and guitar.....my priorites changed to having my own rock band......late 60's. Anyway, from the serial numaber I have found out it is a Model MIAFX 1978. It looks very similar to the Yamaha M112 and is a attractive white laminate.(in like new condition) I belong to different car forums and find there is a wealth of info out there from enthusiasts. If anyone has any feedback or info on this particular piano or anything in general, it would be greatly appreciated.

It was. I just got caught up in the madness for a minute. And anybody who played in a rock band in the 60's is OK by me!
I'm having a ball at my age pursuing the piano, and like you have some guitar experience under my belt. Music is such a pleasure, and you're going to love the trip on the piano.

In all likelihood you have a Yamaha M1A in polished white. If so, it would be a "European Contemporary" cabinet with no front legs. It would be about 40" tall.

If so, it was a decent Japanese-made console piano for. (Some lesser quality models where made in the USA.)In today's dollars it would sell for about $5000.

Its current value is a problem. In black it would be worth about $2500-$3000. In white, if someone offers you $1800...take it! \:D

If it is in good regulation it would be fine for a beginner or an "beginning Intermediate" level.

I hope that helps. If you post the serial number one of us will give you its age.

Thank you Steve for the Info. You are correct in that it does not have front legs and the height is actually 42 inches tall. Even if the values you gave are approximates for this model....I think I made out quite well with the purchase. By the way, the production year is 1978. Thanks again.

I had an early 70s walnut M1A for a couple of years and it served me very well. They don't build em like that anymore. It was all lumber with walnut veneer on the inside of the front panels as well as the outside. It wasn't a bit strident like some of the more recent pianos. I think they were using softer felt in those days.

This piano is a fine tool for getting started with piano studies.

Congratulations on your new piano, Bocatrip, and welcome to the forum! I don't remember seeing a white piano in any of the recent "post your piano pics" threads, so if you have access to a digital camera, can you post some pictures for us?

Can anyone please advise me of what is the best cleaner for the ebony finish? I have the white high gloss finish on the MIA model. Someone actually told me I could use car wax without a cleaner in it......?????

I was told that it's best to avoid cleaners and simply dust the piano, and use a microfiber cloth moistened with water to get the fingerprints off. Somebody else here recommended an "Original California Duster" which you can buy in the auto supplies section of Walmart. I got one and can vouch that it works like a charm.

I seem to remember some threads talking about certain brands of car waxes that would not damage the finish...you might try searching the archives for "cleaning your piano" and see what you can find.
