Hello everyone,

I just have one simple question I couldn't find on the internet, which might become a little more complicated.

Is it even possible to connect a Roland HP506/508 to a macbook in order to connect to a program like Garageband or Logic X pro? If it is possible, how can I make this connection possible?

I do have the Roland wireless connector (WNA-1100-RL), but I'm with my knowledge unable to make the connection.

Thanks in advance for anyone who thinks/replies about it!

You can do this with a standard A/B USB cable. Once connected, the piano will communicate to the computer and the programs you mention via midi.

All digital pianos are capable of this, either using USB (using midi protocol) or MIDI to USB cable:

The wireless connection is another option, but I'm not familiar with it.

Wireless won't work with Garage Band.

Well, it definitely is good news! I had no idea it would work with an A/B USB cable (had a Roland RP301). I'm going to try it tomorrow!

Thanks!!

Yes, my Roland HP302 has midi in & out sockets and a direct USB (type B) output for linking to a computer. They both work fine.

Good luck with that.

Try with your printer USB cable ( if you have one). It is the same.

Beware, I have read about the HP504 (it should be the same for HP506 and HP508), that the USB connection could be set in 2 modes : a standard mode which should work without driver on your Mac and a specific mode which should work with a specific driver (see http://www.roland.com/support/article/?q=downloads&p=HP506).

If the A/B USB cable doesn't work at first, go to the manual and verify that your piano is in standard mode. If you still don't manage to get it work, set the piano in specific mode and download its associated driver.

Just tried it out and it worked! Thanks for the replies!

I have to check out the settings, cause I want the sound-output to be trough my HP506. Is that even possible with a A/B-USB cable?

All different sounds only come from my Macbook when I play the piano (only the normal sound of the piano comes out of the piano). But I want all the different sounds, that are possible in Garageband, to come through the DP. Is an extra aux-cable necessary or can it work with the same A/B-USB cable?

The USB just deals with digital signals with this system. If you want the sounds from the computer to play in the DP, you'll need audio leads.

Most laptops have a small stereo jack as a headphone out - you'll need to route that into the line inputs on your DP (which on the HP506 appears to be the same type. So one of these should do it: http://www.amazon.co.uk/3-5mm-Male-...2764&sr=1-1&keywords=stereo+jack )

Glad it worked first time, anyway smile
