Dear fellow piano enthusiasts,
I recently played a Schimmel Classic 126 Traditional and loved the sound but am not sure about the price/value ratio. For anyone with information and an opinion on this that they're willing to share - what is a reasonable price for this piano and do you think it's worth the money? I have learned that the price of these pianos has increased tremendously over the last 10 years and don't know if there are alternatives that sound about as good but cost considerably less. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

To some degree - more/less with some piano brands than with others - prices may vary depending on availability, dealer incentives, market conditions in a compared areas. Therefore, it's not possible to quote a reasonable price, particularly since you don't say where you live.

Try as many pianos as you can; decide which you like best and which one(s), in your price range, provide(s) the best value for money.

Regards,

BruceD

I would say the closest thing to a new Schimmel vertical is a recently-made used one. They can occasionally be found for sale online (and no...mine is not for sale!).

New pricing information can be found at the Piano Buyer site, linked on the side of the page. Be sure to read the introduction to the pricing guide for a more complete picture of what might be a good price.

Thanks, guys. I was actually able to locate a used one in my area. It's a 2008 Schimmel C116 and the seller is asking $9,000.

@terminaldegree, you mentioned that a recently-made used Schimmel upright should be close to a new one. Is a 2008 model recent enough?

Hi Lukas,

I think a 2008 version should be quite reflective of their new production, subject to condition, use, maintenance, and environment. In the interest of honesty, I've spent very little time playing the specific model you mention, but their vertical pianos are generally well-liked.

Lukas,

Play the piano. A 126 is a very different scale from a 116. They have quite a different performance.

I am not saying you won't like the 116, but don't assume it will perform like the 126. Play the piano before you get excited.
