I've been holding out on buying the es7 for the past month as there were some rumours that Kawai might announce an es8 at Namm.

Is it safe to say now that no es8 is coming any time soon?

Generally, I think there's little to be gained by delaying the purchase of a current product in hopes that an unannounced successor will be available soon. I get why people will do it immediately before a big trade show, since the opportunity cost of a short delay is small, but otherwise, I think it's a mistake.

FWIW, Kawai seems to be on a roughly four-year product cycle with the ES series of digital pianos, which suggests that any successor to the ES7 is unlikely to be announced for another year or more (and would likely not be shipping in volume until some months following the announcement).

I've owned an ES7 for about 18 months. Based on its price and suitability for my application, I'd feel comfortable buying it again if I were in the market right now.

Cheers,

B.

Ive had my ES7 for over two years and still practice on it almost everyday. Have I ever mentioned that I love it ? wink

I would by an ES8 in a heartbeat. However, my wish list for ES8 would be:

- the same HI-XL engine as MP7 and MP11
- Maybe RM3II action or a new RH wooden key action perhaps
- SK & EX Concert Grand and SK-5 Grand
- better speakers or sound system
- expression pedal jack
- better display screen. 16x2 not that great. 128x64 would be much better.

I guess it sounds like Im looking for a VPC1 with MP7 guts and CA67/97 pianos with great on-board speakers in an ES7 shell. ...Hence "wish" list

Edit: Sorry to get off topic trumpeter. I agree with slowtraveler, I'd feel comfortable buying it again if I were in the market right now. The specs on the ES7 are actually still ahead of its time compared to similar offerings.

The predecessor to the ES7, the ES6, had a much more sophisticated speaker system then the ES7.

I agree, since the MP7 I would like to see an update to ES7.

But instead of replacing the ES7 with a successor, how about adding an ES11 to the product range?

Nice idea but could be hideous!
