Greetings everyone! I'm finally ready to submit a piece after so many years. I think it's been more than two years since I've been able to participate. I won't know until the last minute which of the two pieces I will submit. I'm getting started with recording this weekend.

I'm looking forward to it. smile

I recorded the chorus of "Lullaby of the Bells" from Phantom of the Opera movie 1943, and I am practicing the other half for the whole piece in February.
At least I hope to .....
Oddly the score had accompaniment of a Ukulele. which I might "midi in"....
Hawaiian music must of been big in the 40's

shaka laka lu... hope that means something nice ......:)

@Monica Unfortunately the recorder isn't in the cards just yet. I'm hoping by the time the next recital comes around I'll have one.

I'm not sure yet if I can participate. I will try to record the polonaise requested by outo ;), but no promises!
The Schumann e-cital is getting closer and I'm worried about that too...

I've made a recording that will do. A couple of flubs but nothing disastrous. Hoping to get a better one in the coming days, but happy to have this one to fall back on if necessary.

Same here barbaram. I'd love to do a perfect take from start to finish, so I'll keep trying.

I've done some preliminary recordings and have decided to go with Clair de Lune. I know the piece well enough. I'm also learning how to make mp3 recordings. (Yeah, I know it's about time) LOL! I suspect I'll have more problems with the technical aspects rather than the performance.

I'm probably going to be seeking advice on recording as I get closer to submitting my piece.

I will sometimes create a video but it is harder to set up, and when there is endless takes it gets tiring resetting everything. Definitely not for this one.

Surprisingly easy, barely an inconvenience.

I usually do videos, so that I can watch and correct technic issues that I see. In fact a regularly video something once a week or so. Sometimes it is painful to watch, but I always learn from it.

I managed to get a pretty good recording of my piece today. Not perfect, but pretty good. I could use another month of polishing, but deadlines are deadlines!

Got my recording done today. Sure, there are a few bloopers. But, considering I have struggled with this piece for months, I feel pretty good about what I have. I practiced and recorded after plowing us out from Storm Juno. Easily 3 feet of snow which doesn't count the drifts that were significantly higher. Plowing was mentally draining. I was so worried about getting my truck stuck. I guess I felt pretty good getting the driveway open. So good, that I came in and played pretty decently right off. Did it in one take. I'm so relieved it's done.

Well Done you! Recording really is the hard bit. I just got my hands on a film score wrote for piano. The music is part of a greater collection and costs a fortune. So I listened and wrote it down myself. It`s very simple, very evocative. Can`t tell you what the film is on the grounds that it may incriminate me . . . .this will be my recital piece!

Wow. Looking forward to hearing "Wall Street Rag"!

It's an unusual piece, and Joplin is credited as the first composer to structure an entire section of a piece around the use of tone clusters, using chords in which three successive tones (like C, C#, D) are struck at the same time. Joplin uses tone clusters in the final section of the rag.

Yes, that final section is very much unique. When I first heard the piece, it almost felt like that last section just didn't "fit in" with the rest of it, but after playing it a while, it grew on me and now I really like it. The tone clusters seem to just keep building the tension until the final bar resolves the whole thing. I know the debate as to whether to "swing it" or "play it straight" but that final section begs to me to "swing it" so that's probably what I'll do. I hope I can do the piece justice.

I committed to Johan B to participate in an ABF recital this year. This one might be it.

I do have a recording. Audio. On my iPhone. "Voice Memo." On a clunker of a piano(*). I rather like the effect--it's like listening to a vintage 78. If I don't get a 'real' recording done, I'm of half a mind to upload this one.

(*) I affectionately call it "The World's Ugliest Piano". A donated, unmaintained spinet from the '70s that sits in the cafeteria at my work and that I practice and play on. Recorded as a lark.

I have a question to (speculate?) .
If I were to submit a piece which was recorded direct cable audio , and also the midi recording which was done concurrently , but played through a piano sound-font; is that coinage for recital?
Because… I plan to do it that way in succession-sequence, for this next recital .

I'm not sure I understand your question. However, the recital software allows you to upload but a single audio file. If you upload a second, it replaces the first (and changes your place in the lineup)

Ok, makes sense; I was going to use them both, in one recording.
The latter which would be the midi recording through a sound-font, last. But spliced together in one recording.

Spicing together? You are aiming for some special effect? More echo?

I record my dig. Piano with a direct cable to my pc and midi cable at the same time,
The end result is 2 recordings and types of data of the same session.
One is audio, the other is a midi.
If a session were 3 minutes,
One sequentially after the other, spliced from the end of the audio, to the beginning of the second (midi). it would be a 6 minute total time recording.
i.e. not layered for a background effect or echo. (This would be 3 minutes.)
But, I’m just going to record as I’ve done n the past.
I was more or less asking about sound-font use ,aiming for a midi produced grand piano sound, but I ‘ll Nix it,- for now.
