Hi.

A total beginner to piano. First lesson next week!
Kawai ES100 on the way.

I need a stand but I don't have a huge amount of room.
Are those X stands a waste of time? Are they secure at all?

Or am i much better off going with a proper stand? Even though it will be much more inconvenient.

The X stands are the worst. Get a real stand. It will be much more stable. And more comfortable.

I'm not a fan of X-stands, largely due to the way they cramp your leg room. However, some double-braced X-stands are well built, and reasonably stable.

Given the choice, I would opt for a Z-stand or better yet, a table stand.

Kind regards,
James

Hah! Funny this came up... looking at two possibilities for myself
On-stage Stands WS8550 Heavy-Duty T-Stand. $100
On-stage Stands Pro Platform Keyboard stand. $80
Stellar Labs 555-13830 Heavy Duty Keyboard Stand. $50. preferred

I prefer a non-X stand as I am larger and want something as stable as possible. Portability is not a high priority (although I understand these fold up to some degree).
