I was out near Palm Springs all last week playing a Schaeffer & Sons 5'-1" baby grand. When I got home, wow, my piano was suddenly a lot louder.

(Of course what this is, is that you adapt to the instrument, whatever it is. I was expecting to have to adapt to the hotel piano, but didn't think about re-adapting back to mine.)

I've sort of experienced the same.

We stay at the Doubletree in Willmington, Virginia a few times a year. There's a Yahaha G3 (?) in the conference area lobby. The case is pretty trashed, as one might expect of a piano sitting in an oft deserted space flanked by two hotel bars, but the action is surprisingly good--buttery smooth and relatively light--and it always seems to be in tune.

The first time I played it, it felt so nice that I thought surely my own must need some work. In fact, it kind of alarmed me, that perhaps like a frog in a pot of slowly heating water, I hadn't noticed any trouble until it was too late!

Fortunately, when I returned home, my Baldwin felt fine, even good to my fingers, just a little firmer than the Yamaha.

Anyway, I'm glad that Yamaha is always there, so I can get a little piano time in! So often hotel pianos are locked up.

I think your ears and brain are playing games with you.....or it is matter of surroundings of the instrument.......don't worry.....

Just look underneath the keybed and turn the volume knob down a little. That should cure it. wink

Seriously, you will re-adapt in no time.
