I just donated to the campaign. I think Fundamental Keys is an excellent beginner method and I use it with teen and adult beginners. Heather - Would you be willing to post something like this in the Teachers forum? I think there are others who would support the campaign - and who just might find it's a method they'd like to use in their teaching practice as well! PS: I enjoy reading your posts!

I just donated to the campaign. I think Fundamental Keys is an excellent beginner method and I use it with teen and adult beginners. Saw that the 3K barrier is breached, it will be a good boost to reach $3200 and secure Book 2 videos too. So based on your experience, can motivated independent learners use these books to self-teach ? There are always things you will miss without a good teacher, and the beginning stages are the worst time to be without a teacher. It is so easy to develop bad habits that turn into major struggles or even injuries later. I don't think any book can replace a teacher, especially at the beginning. But someone who finds a good teacher to get them oriented for the first 3 to 6 months, then wants to continue on their own, would be much better off with Fundamental Keys than anything else I've seen. Even better would be Fundamental Keys plus some extra pop or film tunes, folk songs, Christmas music etc. to practice learning by ear and to spice things up a bit (FK can be a little plain-vanilla on its own.) There are very good written explanations in the book, clearer and shorter AND more detailed than what's in Alfred's and the like. That will be great for self-learners. The video series promises to provide even more support.

I know they would like it.

On the fund raiser site it says 36 hours left. What happens then ? Is this an "all or nothing" deal like kick starter ?
Do contributors get their money back if the 36 hour period expires without meeting the $7500 goal ?
I had looked into the original series, by the time you download all the $2.99 videos it added up to be quite expensive, I don't have the exact figures before me right now.

It is not all or nothing. At the end of the fund raiser, she will be able to keep whatever amount raised and use it toward the project. So far funding for the videos for book 1 is met, and book 2 looking very solid.

Thanks 8 Octaves, I was reading the how it works details in indeigogo as you were replying. It is a flexible funding project, so it looks like she will forfeit 9% - OUCH ! Well, cost o' doin' biz, I guess. I'll put in to pivot it over the 3200, although I might as well take books and vids at the $150 level. I am SURE that I won't finish book 2 before book 3 is out - I'm a (30+ year repeat) year one beginner C'mon all you arrested development beginners, get in on this will Ya ?

Also, any word on when book 2 is to be releasd?any idea on how long book 1 should take roughly? I had the old version before Rachel didn't tell me when book 2 would be released other than the fact it would be much quicker then book 1 because writing the original music for book 1 was surprisingly time consuming. Book 2 would have original classical compositions by classical masters much like the 1st edition, with more pieces. Your mileage may vary, but for someone who has never touched a piano before, I'd expect an middle aged adult to get through book 1 from a few months to a year. That's if you had a teacher who wouldn't let you get away with much and not allow you to rush ahead before mastering each page. That was the first thing I learned in my first piece in my first month of lessons. Rachel made me stick it out vastly longer than I would have made myself. Her idea of done was far more polished than I could figured, far beyond the "I'm sure I have it now" point. It seemed part of learning piano is to learn to keep improving something no matter how long you have been working at something.

Does that mean that the new book 1 and book 1 video perks have already been distributed ? The book is already available on Amazon.

For those of us working through the original Fundamental Keys book, and I am sure there are lots of us, is there any support to help us through it? Or do we need to get books 2 and 3? I am really enjoying the book but not sure if I could have worked through it without having some basic previous knowledge of theory. I have not looked ahead in my book as I am enjoying learning the pieces page by page, I am hoping there are more theory sections though. Having said that, it would be best to have a teacher working with this book, but that's not an option for me just now. Rachel says it may take around 4 years to complete this book in the info at the beginning of the book. So maybe books 2 and 3 are not required. But they are a good price if wanting to support her endeavours in her video project.

Shey, You might have seen the earlier post by 8_octaves, where the offer to help with Fundamental Keys was posted. Just post the edition and page to describe the correct page. Maybe you could start a new topic here to start the support discussions for Fundamental Keys. If you have any questions regarding how to play something in Fundamental Keys or what to do with the written exercises, feel free to post your questions on the Adult Beginner's Forum. I'll do my best to answer them. Just state which edition and page number your question is on. I have copies of the current and previous books. Rachel Jimenez is my teacher and she said it's fine for me to help any self-learner who have questions learning FK here on the Adult Beginner's Forum. Rachel taught me the entire FK, and I continue to study under her. .. Does that mean that the new book 1 and book 1 video perks have already been distributed ? The book is already available on Amazon. I would expect this activity to start only after the campaign has officially ended. Book 1 videos just got recorded, so it will need more time to be available.

Rachel says it may take around 4 years to complete this book in the info at the beginning of the book. So maybe books 2 and 3 are not required. That's for the old single book edition of FK. The new series, the 3 books will cover the same ground as the old single book, but revised and improved, so the amount of time it would take to get through the 3 new books should be about the same 3-5 years as before. Remember, that's 3-5 years for a 6-year-old child. Adults often learn at a very different pace, and generally faster in the beginning.
