Short story, this is the new addition to the family:

[Linked Image]

Long story, I've always wanted a piano, grew up as a violinist but played some classical/jazz mostly on my mother's Steinway B circa 1990.

In the last 2 years I started researching pianos, and visited every showroom in the chicagoland area searching for a piano with which I could fall in love. I was not wed to any brand nor size, though initially I was searching for an upright at my wife's request. The upright actions and sound left me wanting, actually the only upright I really found exciting was a grotrian 52'. Eventually I slyly convinced my wife a 'baby' grand would be so much more desirable.

I found some new Steinways that sounded nice including an A as well as an O, though the models in my pricerange including the M and S Steinways were not thrilling.

Pianos I really enjoyed included a Fazioli (go figure), a Grotrian (though it was quite bright in voicing), a Steingraber, and a shigeru kawai. I was also rather impressed by Yamaha's CX series. Unfortunately, there were a lot of unimpressive pianos. When I visited the Grand Pianohaus in Skokie IL, I was blown away by the Bosendorfers, in particular the CS series. Though the voicing was brighter than the usual Bose, combined with the underlying tone the two CS series I heard sounded amazing, with a perfect 'bell'-like tone. I also preferred the aesthetics of the matte finish.

A couple of months later I'm on a plane to Montana to inspect a 2003 ebay CS200 in perfect condition being sold for 39K. The sound is identical to the CS pianos I heard at the dealer. I used modern piano national movers to get it here with their airconditioned truck, they were awesome in every way.

Bottom line, I wouldn't have this beauty were it not for this forum as well as a couple of members who particularly steered me from wrong directions via PM. This is an amazing piano, I'm so happy !

Thanks for listening,
Patrick

Is there any way we can hear a recording of its refined sound?

Amen, Brother! thumb

I am curious, though. How did you sneak a 7'9" piano past your wife, who had agreed to only a "baby grand"?

The lady in question must be one of three things:
1) blind as a bat;
2) someone who considers a grand less than 9' long a "baby grand"; or
3) a saint.

Which one of the above applies? smile

Almaviva,
the piano is 6'6- I kind of snuck it under the radar, after all doesn't sound too much larger than 5'0 right?

Sorry, I meant to say the piano is 79 inches long, not 7'9". My mistake!

You lucked out big time! grin

The best way is to start off with a five footer or so, switch it out a few months later for one of the same make and appearance that is in the six foot range . . . then a seven footer . . . and if you are lucky, within a year from the start of the process you can sneak in a concert grand and no one will notice.

By starting off in the six foot range you can remove about three months off of that time line. wink

That is a handsome piano! Congratulations!

Technically, I wouldn't consider it a "lie" to call a 6'6" piano a "baby" grand. Those gradations are open to interpretation. wink

Bravo.......way to go, it's beautiful. You made 2 years of active research and auditions pay off.

For one reason or another most players can't say they "found the one"........but you can. The piano looks like royalty sitting there by the way......blob

Congratulations!

The bosendorfer is a refinement piano.

CS series with a more cheap price, no bright surface, and reduce one check.
