Re; Bridge Pop
Hey, I was at a PTG chapter meeting at a Kawai dealership, with 30 technicians in the room, when a new piano brought forth a 'BAAAANG!' that startled all of us. We all jumped from our seats and starting hunting the source. Turned out to be a piano that was moved to make room for our seats for the meeting! Dang!
Piano (an upright) had been placed under a heating outlet/ceiling vent near the front door. It was a cold night...guess the piano didn't like the constant direct heat flow against the soundboard. The dealer said that the piano had just been uncrated from shipment earlier in the day.
What failed? The soundboard had a 1/8-inch wide, daylight showing, crack completely through the middle of the soundboard from bottom left to top right. Wow!

I have been looking at another photo I took and wonder if anybody can notice a possible extension of the crack through to the end of the plate section. It is only a feint shadow but could be the beginnings of the stress forming. It could also be my imagination. If it has started to stress through to the end then I would be inclined to let it run it's own course rather than intervening.
