Better a week early than a day too late, so I am posting this now.

He was born on April 9, 1943 - this is April 2.

It is hard to believe he already has been gone for more than one year.

Here is a little video with and about this very special pianist, for those who are unfamiliar with him.

Hovhaness' music seemed to have a special and rightly placed affinity for Martin Berkofsky, and it shows in the playing. I wish that he and I had discussed Hovhaness. This did not happen. With Martin everything was always about the person with whom he was speaking, and not about his own agendas and designs.
