I recently purchased a Casio CDP-120 and have managed to get it talking with Sibelius to record music I play and to play music through the piano.

Unfortunately, there is no audio-in and only one audio out (headphones). There is however, a USB-B port on the back, through which you can record.

My question is this: Is it possible to use the USB-B port as an audio input to the piano's speakers?

It seems there are no available audio drivers on the Casio website for the CDP-120. Perhaps I would need an audio interface.

Any thoughts? All help is much appreciated. smile

What exactly do you want to accomplish? Are you trying to bypass the onboard speakers and use the computer speakers instead?

As said can't be done with that model. The simplest way would be to hook up some speakers to your computer and use that to play the backing track, that's what I would do in your situation.

In any case, the USB port on the piano is not meant to be used for audio input or output, the USB port is there so you can use you piano as a midi controller, and it is for that purpose only.

Hi Martyn and welcome to Piano World. The USB port is for MIDI data only -- really only useful for playing software instruments that reside on the computer (sound will come from computer speakers) or using the computer to play back basic MIDI files on the CDP (sound will come from the keyboard speakers). I say basic as the CDP-120 only has 5 tones, so full backing tracks from they keyboard won't happen.

Sounds like you need a mixer and pair of speakers to blend sound from the CDP and backing tracks coming from the computer.

That's a shame. I thought that was the main attraction of the added USB port over the CDP-100. Fortunately I have a soundcard already so I am able to control a virtual piano instrument on my computer via MIDI and blend that with whatever accompaniment/backing track I need. Not the most elegant solution but a solution none the less.

Thanks for you answers. I'm contemplating a dedicated raspberry pi set-up so I'm sure I'll encounter some more problems in the future!

martyn3200,
Yes, it can be an inelegant solution, but for many people here it is actually a preferred solution. the virtual pianos available to be played on the computers are so vastly better than what comes with most digital pianos, many feel that the result is worth the hassle.
