Hi SwissMS
Can I please be excused for 14, 16 and 17 April due to work travel.
I did find a piano to play on Wednesday, at least
Now, after a lot of disruption to my piano time over the last month, it's time to knuckle down...

Thanks
Barbara

Work often gets in the way of doing what we want to do! It is great that you found a piano to play one of the days. Glad to hear you are back on the bench. I will record your travel days.

Hi Doris,

Please excuse me for Sunday April 19. I was ill most of the day with an ear ache. I could barely stand any noises at all. I even shushed my poor dog for whining. frown I got back to the bench Monday.

I know I asked to be excused Tues 21st April, but did actually touch some keys. Not a real practise or even a 'play through' just a few bars of the Bergamesque. We went round old college haunts and I saw the piano I played 44yrs ago in my Fresher year. It was a Steinway and I never knew. Then in the next hall was another, and then in the old Mistress' rooms was another! Three in one day! What a treat! I remember well the Dean of Undergrads coming down in a rage because I was playing 'out of hours' Next time I visit I'll check if I can have some playing time. Can't reduce my 'excuses' anymore though, but will be home on Thursday afternoon. A little break is sometimes a good thing.

It sounds like some wonderful memories, Palmpirate! How awesome to see the piano that you played when you were a student! I hope you managed to get a picture of you playing it again. I am sure there were many hours of hard work in those practice rooms.

Had to lay off piano (other than 30 seconds of scales each day) both yesterday and today due to a piano-related medical problem. Hoping to be back on the bench tomorrow; we'll see.

Also missed 22, 23, 24th of April. Trying to get over this vertigo issue.

Good news is that I could at least run through scales and my memorized warmup pieces today without incident. I didn't want to risk playing from sheet music today -- that seems to trigger the vertigo. My better half made it quite clear that she wants to celebrate her big birthday tonight in a fashion that doesn't involve taking me to the emergency room again.

So I opted for the better part of valor today, but plan to try playing from sheet music tomorrow.

As my 93-year-old buddy always tells me, "Getting old ain't for sissies."

ClsscLib - Wow, I didn't know the the vertigo was bad enough to send you to the emergency room. That sounds pretty serious. I am glad to hear you were able to play memorised pieces without problem. Hopefully the problems will resolve soon and you can read music again. I have recorded Apr 21-24 as excused.

Zerlina - Welcome aboard! We love to have new MOYD'ers. I will record your Memorial Day travel dates as excused.

Oh I wish there had been more hours spent there!
To put you in the pictures, I was, and still am a 'closet'piano player. I haven't ever really 'come out' as they say....
I was studying science - I started out as a Botanist, and then read Law, and finished up as a Chartered Accountant .
Such 'penance' for a musician at heart.
The pianos I mention were not in practice rooms but in the major rooms of the college (Girton, Cambridge) - beautiful late 1800 style with tall ceiling and stained glass. Miss Duke had rooms above and I, not being, a piano 'student' wasn't aware of 'practise hours' so that was why she got so mad when I would creep in to play!
Now I frustrate myself terribly trying to play half decently..... but wouldn't change a thing. It is a joy in my dottage!

I need to be excused this Saturday. My church is hosting a women's retreat and we leave Friday and return Sunday, so I will be able to practice those two days, but not sure about Saturday. Even if there is a piano at the hotel, I'm guessing there won't be time. We'll be learning self-defense and shooting guns and getting manicures/pedicures/massages LOL. Don't mess with the church ladies!

Casinitaly- I hope you are feeling better soon! Being sick in the spring when it is so nice outside is no fun at all

Morodiene - Shooting guns and getting manicures. Wow, that is an interesting juxtaposition. It sounds like a fun weekend!

I missed yesterday but I'm back on the wagon today!

This forum has already gotten me practicing more regularly. I find myself working more time to play piano in during my busy days because I know I'm accountable. Of course, once I sit down to play, I'm always glad I did. Thanks everyone!
