Hi all,

I am completely new to recording. I want to be able to record my performances with both video and audio, good quality. I also want to be able to transmit live performances via Skype. So after 5 hours of researching, I have reached the idea that a Logitech C920 Webcam with a Zoom H1 for audio will work. I think I could program the Logitech software to get it to play audio via the Zoom H1 instead of the built in Logitech mics (?) Do I need other cables to get the audio and video to sync together? Also the Zoom H1 is portable, but if I wanted to stream audio directly from the MP11 to the Zoom H1, what cable would I need? Just trying to get on track. Thanks for any pointers!

Why not a Zoom Q4 or Q8?

I agree with lophiomys, it probably would be easier to go with a camera with a good mic.

Also, will you want to speak and play, or just play? In the latter case, no mics would be needed as you could do a direct line in and get a very clear sound (not have to worry about the dog barking or A/C turning on while you're recording). So for recording your performances, go with a direct line-in. This can be done a couple of different ways, but the best is to have an audio interface where you can take the line out (left and right, so you will need two TS cables) and plug those into the corresponding left and right inputs on your interface, and that plugs into your computer via USB. Or, you can use XLR cables if your interface has XLR inputs. XLR is better, but if you keep your cables short enough, TS is fine since anything you share on youtube will be compressed.

For Skype, the Q4 or 8 would work well. However, the quality of sound on Skype is severely compromised and a lot also depends on the speed if your internet and that of the person you are Skyping with, as well as the quality of audio and video on their end. So do the best that you can, but there will be a limit to quality this way.
