as a relative beginner, I'm learning riffs and blues scales for use in many 12 bar blues songs... just wondering what you think are the best/easiest chords to learn/play/solo in?... and the one's you want to avoid?
I was doing a song in E-A-B 12 bar chords, but i saw many versions of it online in Eb, so it got me wondering 'why do this in Eb?' Seems like I'm doing mostly songs in C, E, and G, but see versions in many keys. Is the key mostly for the singer to fit in?

I think it's really up to your own preference. I tend to like keys that have the root on a white note, and the minor third on a black note (C, F, G) for some reason.

I would recommend learning in a "depth-first" sort of a way. Meaning, spend a bunch of time playing the blues in C, and once you're an expert, then add another key. Contrast to "breadth-first" practice, which would be trying to learn as many keys as possible from the start. I think it's better to be a master of a few keys than a novice at many.

I come from a background that's mostly folk, rock, and country string-band, so I'm in G, D, and C a lot. Sometimes E. Sometimes A. What I'm trying to say is get familiar with what the rest mostly play in. If you're not playing with other folks, don't wait until you're "good enough," just do it. There's nothing else like it.

Selecting key of blues associated with the instrument. On guitar easier to play with open strings - blues in E, in A. On the piano is easier to play blue notes , slipping from black keys to white - Blues in C, in F, in G. In these keys played Memphis Slim.
