So, I grew up with an upright piano almost all my life, and have since moved out and haven't played piano in a couple of years, so I'm rusty. I really want to get back into it, actually it would be super nice to get with a group of similar tasted musicians, and learn with them, but I have much room for improvement, especially reading music. I usually prefer just playing by ear, but I have been reading from this website http://azpianonews.blogspot.com/2012/09/review-20122013-digital-pianos-under.html and have been looking for a piano that would accomplish what I'm wanting. It seems to me that the casio's would be the best bang for my buck, especially the PX5S, because I would like to get into composing music in addition to practicing and playing as a hobby. I like the extras like the arpeggiator and synth functions, as the type of music I would like to start getting involved in is chill/trance style. The music I usually have played and composed, on an upright, is similar to Ludovico Einaudi.

So my concerns are, price, I don't want to break the bank and $1000 seems reasonable, especially for what you get. I've never owned a digital keyboard and just know the standard piano, so I'm a little intimidated with learning all the features, because as a kid I would play on an old Yamaha keyboard, but would just play the piano part and never mess with all the features. and finally is if a new one comes out next year (or soon) that makes this model obsolete and drops the price significantly. The only digital pianos I've played around with have been a yamaha and roland and I was amazed at how good it felt and real it was. Although they didn't "quite" sound like a real piano, they were good enough for me!

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Yeah, I was slowing going to add on and start out with headphones, actually, I saw a bundle on Amazon that had a starter kit all for $1,000. Either that, or look on Craigslist to try and find one that had the speakers included. My wife and I have been moving a lot, like 3-4 times since the past 18 months, and finally we might have found a place to settle down a bit, but if not, I would like something easy to transport. So I'm not sure about the different types. I also want something low maintenance, hence why I'm preferring a digital piano over a natural one, don't want to pay all the time to tune it, etc. This is my first time buying a piano and want to prevent as many mistakes as possible and get the best option for me. I still feel like there is so much to learn even after reading a ton about it. Thanks!

Also, this reminds me. My dream would to actually play, somewhat commercially?, but am not going to quit my day job, But I also like the idea of using my headphones to practice and not keep everyone awake. My goal is to make enough money to pay off the piano, not sure how I'm going to do it, but I really want a piano that sounds and plays nice. And if I can learn on it, and create music with it, even better!
