Guys,

Sorry, either the upload is broken or I am. I have uploaded my first picture to PW and it asks for "File Information" What on earth is that? I did all of the correct "browse" and email address and such, but I have no idea what "File Information" is.

Anyway, I submitted the photo and it takes me to a page, "Piano World Forum Search for Submitters" and my name is not on the list. The directions said it would automatically take me to a page that would give me a URL.

I really am not that computer dumb, but this one has me.

Waiting to upload pictures of the Maestoso serial #2

Dave,

The instructions about taking you to a page that would give you the URL are ... wrong! But you should have received an email that contains the URL.

OK,

Let's see if this works! Sorry for all all of the fingerprints...I can't keep my kids off! (That is a good thing, of course!)

David

I will try to upload more pictures during the day. I have a customer coming in from California, so I just had to sneak this one in.

OK,

How do I resize this thing so it looks normal?

I uploaded the photo at about 100K so I didn't think it was too large. ???

Dave,

Nice piano....at least as much as I can see of it! (It lost its right bootie...)

Try IrfanView (it's free!) at http://www.download.com/IrfanView/3000-2192_4-10335353.html?tag=lst-0-1

Someone else recommended it, and I used it to reduce the size of my photos to an acceptable size.

Resize each photo so that it's no more than 450 pixels wide; keep the same width-to-height proportion as the original. Save as a "jpeg" (or "jpg") file. The size was Frank's suggestion; it ensures that the picture is small enough to avoid scrolling sideways to see the entire photo.

I wonder if you can tell us what level of customizaton this piano received?

And another shot of Mom testing it out on the first day. She has been playing the piano in our church for 55 years. She loves the piano. She loves the deep bass.

Here is a picture of the front of the piano. The view I mostly see!

LOOK AT ALL THE FINGERPRINTS AFTER JUST 1 DAY!!! My kids are so happy I can't even get a turn. I wake up in the morning and hear the piano playing and when I come home I hear the piano playing. I have to wake up early just to be able to play! The piano is playing during breakfast and dinner. Then I play again every night after they go to bed...if my WIFE isn't on the piano!

THANK YOU KEITH!!!

David \:\) \:\) \:\)

ps Keith, what sort of a warranty do I get on worn out hammers!

Christopher James Quinn,

I told Keith to make sure the action was extremely even and correctly weighted. He added stiffening and then put in a big bass speaker somewhere...I just haven't found out where he hid it yet.

David

(You'll need to ask Keith. This is a temporary piano for me so I left it up to him to strike the balance between money and realizing I would only keep the piano a short while.) I am so happy with what he chose to do for me, the price, and the results! Currently, he is looking for a Steinway for me right now to custom rebuild into the piano of my dreams. I believe I want a 1/4 sawn mahogany.

Hi David,

I think you need to get a second grand, perhaps, Maestoso Serial #3???? Otherwise, you'll never get to play! Label one "Dad's"[/b] and the other one "Everyone Else".[/b] \:D

Very nice piano! Looks like you have the same caster cups I got with mine. One started to crack, so I bought some wooden ones instead.

Hey, you're going for an expensive piano, I'd go for the FULL sawn mahogany... \:D

Seriously though, was that a common veneer or is that custom/rare? (I don;t recall seeing 1/4 sawn)

Chris,

My bad. It is pyrimidal (is that right Keith???) mahogany that I was looking for.

Better ask Keith, I know a lot about aluminum and making things out of metal. As for wood, I just send him pictures of what I think is cool and let him decide how to come up with it.

David

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, Chris.

David's piano is pretty straight forward. It received about 30+ hours worth of prep and a lot of voicing( totally unnecessary, I know, but we had a lot of time on our hands \:D ) A couple of design/execution/ material problems were corrected in the action. The hammers were retraveled and squared in Piano Craft's own way, and the back structure was enhanced to dampen the case and the plate.

Keith, what exactly did you do to the back structure of the piano? I'm curious...

Keith at Piano Craft stiffened the bracing under the piano and it MUST have done something to help the bass tremendously.

Everyone who plays it ALWAYS says the same thing. WOW, this thing really has some bass! One of the neighbor girls came over last night and started to play and was actually startled by the bass so much she lost her place and had to start over! No kidding.

The bracing must help the sound board reverberate more fully and deeply. It is one of the ONLY pianos I can clearly hear the bass A1 in. I can actually hear the fundamental as the string vibrates. It is quite satisfying to play. I have to be very careful with the pedal to not overdo it. Most pianos have a bass that is quite muddled with terrible overtones generated all over the place that I have heard.

I haven't thought about the physics too much, but if the structure is weak and flexible, then it would act like a damper and absorb the vibrations somewhat. Stiffening up the structure will make it act more like a taught drum. I need to think about this some more as I am not overly familiar with the construction of pianos.

David, thanks for the explanation.

Could you please take a picture of that area under your piano?
Stiffening the rim is a good idea, but it helps the treble usually, not the bass. I bet he did something else to improve the bass.
