very disappointing. So they awarded Masleev for his Mozart D minor and then he took the big prize along with the audience members who stomped endlessly for him.. most perplexing.

Well I think we were all influenced by the media.

First it was Lukas vs Lucas.
Then it was Li vs Kharitonov.

Each of these 4 had their own special charisma.
Lucas the postmodern French.
Li the brash American
Lukas the king in waiting.
Kharitonov the prince in waiting.

Masleev was under the radar throughout the competition.

So SiFi's and the Jury's favorite won. I am sure Li and Kharitonov are very happy with their second and third prize. smile

I remembered your second and revised prediction, you placed Masleev on top. Well done.

Enjoying the competition immensely and really happy for George Li and Tseng!

Thanks everybody, especially Brendan (and even the Russians :-)!

Wondering how long afterwards will we be able to access the videos online? Can't get enough of George Li now :-)

Will see you in October, Elaine. Now go and practice which ever instrument you are playing.

I was basically right, mind you, but for putting Masleev 4th. 😀

The guy who plays last (early rounds) is never supposed to advance/win. Or first. Or the the youngest or oldest competitor. But it happens!

It will be interesting to see where ALL of these prize winners are in their careers ten years from now. Will any eventually become big names - or will they simply fade into oblivion?

90 pages.

By the time the Grand Prix is awarded, or not, on the 3rd will we be at 100 pages?

Now Li is going to Warsaw with a silver medal in his pocket,
which undoubtedly will have a very positive effect for him.

It seems very probable that he might place there too.

Can someone explain the ties? They ended up with ties because they got the exact same numbers of votes? Also, another important thing, in the name of transparency....Will we now find out how the jurors voted in all rounds? The first round votes became public, for participants that did not advance. It would be most interesting to see how people voted in later rounds, too.

Coming late to the party, I realized how much I've been influenced by you folks here grin - in not bothering to listen to any of Masleev's performances, after almost everybody dissed him right from round 1.

But after listening to all the Tchaik 1's - except Masleev's - I've no doubt that Kharitonov's is the best. Technically the most secure, the most brilliant & fearless and the most Russian: Li sounds underpowered beside him, for instance - and I'm also disturbed by his scattered wrong notes too, which is oddly not in the likely places.

Now, I'll have to listen to the winner's performances from scratch - from round 1 onwards.......

Each judge will now rank the 6 finalists in her/his own preference; the accumulated minority of votes will determine the ranking of the finalists. Evaluation method: rank 1 = 1 point, rank 2 = 2 points, etc. In case of a tie, the place of a finalist is determined by the total number of points b) accumulated in the two previous rounds voting. For the decision with regard to final prizes, the jury must consider all the performances throughout the Competition. The 1st Prize/Gold Medal (the tied vote is unacceptable) can be awarded by a majority of votes (with a deciding vote of at least 8 out of 11). For special prices each judge will give one name; prices will be decided by simple majority of votes. Jury decisions are final and not revocable.

To avoid any influence on further voting, all votes a) and b) given to the passing contestants will be kept confidentially to everybody, including the jury.

I thought he was excellent throughout. Not flawless, but quite personal visions of the works performed and generally very clean technique. I think you'll enjoy his performances . . .
