Was wondering if anyone could help me find someone in Houston, Tx.

I've tried takelessons.com and haven't had much lucky finding someone to help me.

I don't play classical (and that makes it difficult to find someone). I enjoy playing pop/Adult contempo (Elton John, Billy Joel, Bruce Hornsby, jazz standards, etc) & was hoping someone could guide me in this.

I am located in Houston. My piano teacher does not necessarily only teach classical music although she is trained in classical music. Not sure if you will feel ok with Chinese teacher? My teacher is Chinese and usually Chinese teacher has high expectation of students and if does reacher their standards they will scold or yell during class.

Does she teach private lessons? How much an hour? And what's her name?

Thanks for heads up

Yes. She teach private lesson. They recently increase the rate to $80 for one hour lesson. But she will have 30 minutes and 45 minutes lesson too. I will private message you her name.

I had a chuckle reading this. The above is a subjective description (which I'm sure is also effective to certain students), but like any other stereotype, as you develop your mentoring relationship with your teacher, you may end up describing the teaching style a little different from your end.

Strict accountability and high expectations, coupled with timely correction and timely humor tend to produce good results. The local MTA should also provide you with a good list of options. Never be afraid to do the piano interviews/ sample class with the highly rated or recommended teachers, before signing up with one permanently.

which area of Houston and how far are you willing to travel? There are plenty of good piano teachers that don't yell at you especially for $80/hour. That rate is terribly close to the rate of college professors rate, I'd rather go to one of them rather than ms screamer.

Talk to a couple of public school music teachers, church organists, and local cabaret pianists. Finding a teacher via the classical music fraternity will most likely not be a good fit for you. The last person you want is a teacher of young hotshots.

I hope he is not, If a teacher that I'm paying DARES to try to yell at me should consider him/herself VERY lucky to be just yelled back especially in a room with no witnesses where a lot of things can go wrong.
That kind of abusive attitude from teachers deserves absolutely no respect and no tolerance.
