I get the Privia with either offical stand (not with 3 pedals), or with Stagg MXS-A1. Same price.

What would you go for?
(I will never want the Casio 3-pedals)

They've been making this type stand for many years. I got mine back in the early 90's and it's still going strong. Looks and works like brand new. Obviously its virtues are that it can be used w/ most any portable DP, and it's adjustable (esp. in height, which might make a big difference depending on your seating options). And most of the stands made for a specific make & model are made w/ engineered wood and don't stand up to much punishment, esp. if you expect to disassemble/reassemble it many times (we move a lot and that always does damage in my experience). So at least for *me*, these portable stands (at least the good quality ones) are the way to go, as long as you're willing to use a standalone sustain pedal.

It all depends on if you want something that looks more furniture-like, or if you need something portable. The portable stand, as eibgrad points out, does not have the pedal unit, so that means your pedal(s) will tend to slide around as you use them. But it has its pros as well.

Adjustable height doesn't matter that much if you have an adjustable bench - which is far more useful and important unless you happen to have very long legs and standard piano height for acoustics doesn't work for you either (it does for most people).

Thanks for your replies.

I will place it at a 90dg angle with my desk, and use my office chair.

Are the Stagg-legs stable, and does it prevent the keyboard sliding around on top?

One more suggestion:

. . . Buy an M-Audio SP-2 sustain pedal.

It weighs a lot, and has a much nicer action than the stock PX-150 pedal. And it moves around much less.

The PX-150 pedal is lighter and smaller, but that's the only advantage it has.

Thanks. I'm looking at the RPU-3 with MIDI expression, plugged into Pianoteq.

The PX-150 will be my first digital piano.

I haven't tried the Stagg model in particular, but I do have a table stand made by On-Stage, which appears to be comparable. I really like the table stand styles and mine came with a bit of rubber on the top so the DP doesn't slide. If the Stagg lacks this, you can always buy something similar to attach to the top.

Also, if your desk chairs has arms, that will get in the way of playing. If not, that's not a problem, although wheels will make it difficult to get a solid grounded feel for playing. If it's not a wheeled chair with arms, then it should be OK, you will just have to adjust the stand so that the height works with that chair.

Depends on the unit. As long as the DP's rubber feet make contact w/ the shelf, it shouldn't move around much. But regardless, I always keep some non-slip material in the house for these purposes (mostly to keep stuff from sliding in drawers, but it works well for many other purposes).

Walmart always carries it too, perhaps for even less.
