This event starts tomorrow, a few miles from where I grew up. Doesn't look like it will be as full of talent as the Tchaikovsky or the 2013 Cliburn, but it should be interesting nevertheless. Link to the contestants' repertoires below. As usual I shall be rooting for Ms. Garritson, who IMO has the neatest, cleanest style of any young pianist on the circuit. I just wish some of these competition judges would agree with me! http://issuu.com/leedspiano2015/docs/lipc_competitor_repertoire_2015?e=18660890/14777565

Webcasts here, though it looks like you need Windows to run MediaPlayer and it's not live: http://www.leeds.ac.uk/music/pianocompetition/

Hi SiFi, Thank you for the announcement. The webcast page that you listed is for the 2009 competition. http://www.leeds.ac.uk/music/pianocompetition/(and appears to be not updated because the next competition 2012 webcasts is not found elsewhere) The official website is http://www.leedspiano.com/ but I can't find a section where they would eventually list the webcasts. The website is not as user-friendly as the Tchaikovsky XV but Tchaikovsky really set the benchmark as far as social media is concerned.

Lots of Beethoven 3 & 4 in everbody's concerto repertoire. Beethoven is so tricky since the texture of his piano writing is so thin and horizontal against modern, souped-up orchestras.
Gee, where's all the Tchaikovsky? 😀

I realized something was up as soon as I started trying to match the names to the schedule. So it looks like there is no live streaming. Bummer. I agree about the Tchaikovsky. That was fantastic. We've been spoiled - everything else is going to look amateurish. (If anyone finds a webcast for the Leeds, please let us know!)

The weblink in the earlier posts must be an old list (I would be puzzled if they could already know in advance which candidates are going to reach the semi-finals, while the competition hardly begun! ). However, I can ask a colleague who was there and who lent his piano for practising 3 years ago. The current list of competitors can be found here. Today was the first day, but alas I didn't have time to go (even though the venue is only 2 mins walk from my office). I do intend to go later this week, and I will attend the two evenings of the finals. The schedule can be found here: competition schedule. I am not sure if the University plans to make webcasts, but I can find out.

A Yorkshireman, just like me a long time ago! (I lived not far from Helmsley.) Actually I wouldn't be surprised at all if some of the jurors already "know" who's going to win, let alone reach the semis, but that just me being jaded and cynical. I really wish they would have livestreamed it like the Tchaik.

A Yorkshireman, just like me a long time ago! (I lived not far from Helmsley.) Alas, not by birth. I am just an import (some call that nowadays an "illegal migrant" -- whether or not one's presence is legal or illegal). "The Leeds" is definitely a great bonus here (together with what is arguably the best climate and country side of Britain): every 3 years, piano world's greatest talents descend from all over the world -- unless the current government will put a stop to foreign talent flocking to Britain (which it seems keen to do). Then it will be time to leave.

Yes I have been around, but more towards North Yorkshire moors and Lake district and peak district. The country side is very uplifting. Not all the places you mention I have visited, so thanks for the suggestions.

They all play piano, in between the boxing. And the accent is York-shire. Ta Love!
