Hello! i'm pretty new here, always reading some really helpful posts :P.

I've been playing for over a year (1.5?) on a Korg SP170 and i have the money to upgrade (1.000US or so)

Doing a little research i found 4 possible options (any other suggestion is ok :))

Kawai CL36
Casio Privia 850BK
Korg LP380
Yamaha DGX650

Any opinions on which feels more like the real thing (grand piano)? I never played on a Grand, but i did play on some old uprights with bad action, which is quite different from my Digital.

Thank you very much!

PS: I believe some of you will recommend that i should go to the store and try them, but since i don't really know how a real piano action actually is, i don't see how that will be useful grin

I'd keep saving your money until you really know what you want. Those keyboards are all very different and are only a minor upgrade over your current one. Unless you're deeply unsatisfied with your current one I'd give it another 6 months.

Where I live, many music stores have _both_ acoustic and digital pianos.

So you start by playing on a grand piano for a while. And then go to the digitals, and find one that feels _close to_ the grand piano.

And then go back to the grand piano and play for a little while. Then go back to the digitals, and confirm your opinion.

That's what I did when I bought my PX-350.

I suggest that you bring headphones (the best you have, or the best you can borrow) with you.

As Andrew said: continue saving until you can upgrade to something in the $2000 range...

You should try to play some real pianos. Go to a store that sells pianos. You may also find pianos in nearby schools. Even real pianos can feel very different from one another, but if you play a few, you should at least have a rough idea.

Agreed. Also hotels and restaurants often have pianos and I have yet to find one where you can not play a little in the less-frequented times.

Just say something nice when you leave :-)
