Hello!

I'm looking for a good quality (good sound, velocity sensible, ...) web-based piano which I can play using my MIDI keyboard.

I know there are many good quality plugins out there, but I'm searching specifically for a web-based one, that is, one which runs in the web browser.

Thanks in advance!

I know no virtual instrument like this. Why do you want this form of virtual instrument ? It can't be web based in a sense that MIDI events are sent to the server and the sound back via Internet: too much latency (you can test try-sound.com to be sure!). As a Web plugin, I know no advantage on a standard standalone program.

Sorry, maybe I was not clear enough. I don't need the sound engine to be on server-side (indeed, impossible to succeed with that), what I look for is some browser-based piano-emulation engine which does all the processing, both MIDI and audio, on client-side.

One advantage is no need to install, just use a web browser.

Some solution existing out there?

Plenty of organ, piano and synth 'apps' for iPad and iPhone. A couple for Android but rather weak. Not browser though.

Support for the Web MIDI API just appeared in Chrome this year so I wouldn't expect a lot of support for it just yet.

Here's an article some a list of the first websynths:
http://arstechnica.com/information-...pport-enables-web-based-synths-and-daws/

And to clarify the OPs point, "web" doesn't mean every MIDI note hits some central server in order to then generate sounds. In this case, "web" means the MIDI synth was coded using HTML+JS+CSS and you just happened to download that code from a website. When it runs, the computations all run on your local computer.

So, let's say that the technology is there, and that some people has used it to make some synhts and DAWs (thanks MossySF for the link! It's a very interesting blog entry), but no one tried to make "just-a-good-piano" with it yet...
